Customer Review: Cuisinart DCC-1100BK--very good coffeemaker

After 10 years of faithful service, our Mr. Coffee started to go haywire, so we were in the market for a new coffeemaker. Our daughter got a Hamilton Beach for Christmas last year, which she really loves, but I didn't like the looks of it for my kitchen. I started to look online and read reviews on other coffeemakers that would suit what we were looking for, which this time would include an auto timer, so we could have hot coffee when we wake up. I thought that perhaps we should go back to the old standby--Mr. Coffee, but so many of the reviews for their products were negative. It seems they have gone downhill and are not built to last anymore like the old ones. Then I looked at the Cuisinart section and found this model. After reading all of the reviews on it, we decided to purchase it and are very glad we did. Here are some of the things we like about this model after using it for a few weeks now.
1. It makes a great tasting pot of coffee in about 12 minutes and the coffee is very hot!
2. It has a 3 year limited warranty-- a lot of coffeemakers have only a one year warranty
3. The carafe is easy to pour from and we've never had coffee dribble while pouring.
4. The auto timer feature works great!
5. It has a programmable feature that lets you choose how long you want the hot plate to stay on after brewing--from 0 to 4 hours and also gives a warning 2 beeps when it turns off.
6. It has an auto 5 beep feature that signals the end of the brewing cycle--we've never found it to be a problem, even if we are still in bed when the pot is done. Others complained it was too loud, but I like it especially when we are up and about because then you know for sure that your coffee is ready and waiting!
One thing that many of the reviewers didn't like was the small opening to the water reservoir. We don't find it to be a problem as long as you pour carefully. It also takes the cone shaped filters, which are a little tricky to fill, especially for my husband. He takes the filter basket and sets it into a cup larger than the basket for stability, inserts the paper filter and then dumps the coffee in. I am able to just stand the filter basket up on the counter with the paper filter in it and then carefully dump the coffee in. (It has a narrow flat surface on the bottom). Other reviewers said the unit was so tall that it had to be pulled out from under the cabinets to fill. This is true for us also, but we had to do it with our old Mr. Coffee model as well, so it is really not a big issue. It also has a self cleaning feature which we haven't used yet. I would definitely recommend this coffeemaker to others!
One other note: We ordered this product from Amazon at a good price and two days later, it was sitting on the counter. Their shipping was extremely fast. We thought we would have to wait a week to 10 days to receive it.
