Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart CSC-650 6-1/2-Quart Slow CookerCustomer Review: Cuisinart Slow Cooker Summary: 4 Stars
The CSC-650 was not what I thought I was ordering, what I got was the PSC-650... so while I'm not particularly happy about that - it turned out okay; I have made some wonderful roasts, and I am looking forward to expanding my culinary endevours. The unit is easy and intuitive to use. All in all, I am happy with it. I take away one star out of five because the lid doesn't really fit the crock. It just sort of floats over the top, so it is not retaining all of the moisture it might; yet it is wonderful to walk into the house after it has been working all day and smell the aromas.
Customer Review: Too hot! Boils, burns and dries out food. Summary: 1 Stars
This was bought for us off our wedding registry, and it has been a big disappointment. Basically, whatever time the recipe says cook on high, you have to subsitute "low", and whatever the recipe gives as the cooking time for "low", you have to substitute "keep warm". Even the "keep warm" setting starts boiling -- and keeps boiling -- until you turn it off. Every time I have put something in it and left it for a few hours (which is the whole point of having a slow cooker) I have come home to meat that is stringy, dried out and burnt, and still boiling. Thumbs down, cuisinart!
Customer Review: Falling apart Summary: 1 Stars
The first time we used this cooker, it worked fine. But when we finished using it and I lifted it, it stuck briefly, then came up with a "crack". On a smooth countertop, the rubber cushions on the bottom of the feet create a suction that hold them down. But the plastic feet are weak and snapped with very little force.
After only a few uses, two feet have broken off and the timer knob broke and fell off. We own several other Cuisnart appliances that are quite sturdy and have lasted for years, but this product has been quite a disappointment.
Customer Review: CSC-650 Slow Cooker works great Summary: 4 Stars
Retail price on this unit is $149, Amazon price was $99. Rival cooker with bells and whistles is less than $50. Question I had to answer is "is this worth the extra $50 - $100?". I gave the unit as a gift to my daughter. She loves it. She says it doesn't get hot on the outside so children don't get burned. It doesn't over cook like many units. The low temperature is really a low temperature. She loves the feature that keeps the food warm when it reaches the designated time. To her the Cuisinart was worth the cost difference.
Customer Review: Was looking for a SLOW cooker Summary: 2 Stars
I've cooked several different dishes with this appliance and luckily I've been home to shut it off in time. Every recipe calls for cooking 6-8 hours on low but my dishes are done after 2.5-3 hours; I can't help but think it's taking away from the flavoring of the meal. I've tried pork chops, chicken, stew meat, pork roast, etc and all with the same result. I would not buy this product again or recommend this to anyone as a quality slow cooker.
It's pretty easy to clean though and mine has held up. I like the retractable cord also.
