I am a working mother of two small children with a husband that travels 90% of the time. Needless to say, it is a struggle to provide a home cooked meal for my kiddos. I thought a slow cooker would be the answer. Yesterday, after fighting my way through a snowy rush-hour with two moaning kids, I was not greeted with the good smells of a home-cooked meal. Rather, I was greeted by the stench of burning food and spent the next half hour scraping black food from the bottom of the slow-cooker.
I was well-aware of the issues of it cooking too hot, so I cut the cooking time in half - it was on low for 2 hours and then switched to warm... and that was the result.
I do not recommend this product if you are using it for its intended purpose - to fix it and forget it!

WOW! I have owned a couple of different smaller models over the years and this is by far the best. The worst I ever owned did not have a removable inner pot and therefore it was a nuisance to clean, so be sure you do not get one of those. The pot in this comes out for easy cleanup. My favorite thing to do is prepare some chili or a stew the night before by adding the ingredients to the pot and then placing it in the fridge until the next morning at which time I put it in the cooker, turn on the slow setting and head out the door to work. Guess what...dinner is ready when you walk in the door and it doesn't get any better than that. The appliance will switch to a low warm setting so you do not have to worry about burning the house down. Oh what will they think of next? I LOVE IT!!!!Customer Review: Great Pot!!

I love this slow cooker. I read all the reviews and wasn't sure I wanted this pot but when I read other reviews they had just as many complaints.
I bought this one, kept the box and receipt because I was expecting to bring it back but I was pleasently surprised. I have owned it for about a month and have used it many times (I have never had a slow cooker before) everything comes out great, it seems very safe when I leave it all day and the pot just pops into my dishwashed each night. I don't see a lot of bubbling, it cooks very slow and the lid fits great. After reading the reviews I have to wonder if there is a batch of lemons out there. I bought the William Sonoma cookbook along with some of their sauces and the recipes are very easy and good.

I recommend this wonderful Cuisinart Slow Cooker to all who wish for a no-fuss and easy to use kitchen equipment. It's easy to clean, has a great retractable cord, temperature gauge and it looks beautiful! My friends all want one and Amazon offers free (and fast) shipping. I did quite a bit of research before purchasing this product and I am very happy. I was able to make "kalua pig" a Hawaiian-style dish that I usually prepare in the oven or on special occasions, in an "imu" (pit in the ground covered with banana leaves & lava rocks). Everyone loved the slow-cooker version of Kalua pig. Only recommendation to the company is for a better lid handle. The cheap plastic knob it now has does not match the product.

I hate to say but my husband actually picked one of these units up, BRAND NEW, from an estate sale. The lady was moving and didn't want it, so she was parting with it. For the $12 she was asking, my husband couldn't pass it up. I have a Rival slow cooker already, but I can always use 2 slow cookers. I went on line to see the reviews on this unit and possibly a manual to download and Boy! was I scared to use it! Boiling on low after 2 hours of cooking, fire hazard, unit gets too hot, breaks down, etc. But I thought for $12 and brand new, im giving it a shot! So far, so good. It didnt boil on low, cooked evenly and didnt burn my stew. I also read a review of the handle becoming too hot to touch, but mine was fine. I am keeping my fingers crossed!
