Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart CSB-33 QuikPrep Hand Blender, WhiteCustomer Review: Blade broken after 4 months -- poor warranty Summary: 3 Stars
My husband received this as a birthday present. We loved how it worked when it worked. We used it to make protein shakes after our long runs. I also used it to make soups. It was great for the protein shakes because we could just blend them up in the cup provided. For soup, it did an o.k. job. My upright Oster blender does a better job, though, as far as getting it smooth, but that is to be expected. Overall, we were happy with the performance of this blender, though it is the first one we have owned, so we have nothing to compare it to. Unfortunately, after only 4 months of very little use, the blade disconnected from the shaft and now spins freely, so it is non-functional. Though the manual states that you can send it back to them with $5 and get a replacement, when I called them, they said it would cost $10 plus we'd have to ship the old one back to them OR we could return it to the store we bought it at. Well, we received it as a gift, and it was probably bought on amazon, so taking it back to the store isn't really an option. When it costs less than $30 new, it seems like such a hassle to spend $10 plus the cost of shipping and the hassle of boxing it up, etc... to get a new one.
After reading some other reviews, I think we may try the Waring Pro or the Kitchenaid. Both are available at Target, and they both have a better warranty than Cuisinart's. We own several Cuisinart appliances that we love (coffee maker, coffee grinder, food processor, etc...), but this one disappointed us. I gave it 3 stars because it does perform well, but it just doesn't last long. It looks like others have had the same issue, so we didn't just get a bad apple. If it had lasted a year, we would have gotten our money's worth, but 4 months isn't long for the amount we used it. We used it MAYBE twice week.
