Customer Review: lever won't stay down... just like many 1 star reviews say

Just as many reviews say, the lever suddenly would not stay down. The warranty period is over but the toaster was used very little. I made a piece of toast, ate it; put in another piece of bread and the lever would not stay down therefore it would not toast. I have many other Cuisinart products but will never purchase another product from Cuisinart after the poor customer service I received when I told them about the lever. I even pointed out to them that the lever appeared to be a common defect (from what I read on the internet). Cuisinart customer service could have cared less.Customer Review: Decent, not fantastic

We chose this toaster for it's smaller footprint - there are so many enormous ugly toasters on the market, and we wanted a compact version. It basically toasts ok, (we don't toast anything fancy) can burn easily, and the supposed LED lights are a fake. We actually returned the first one because we couldn't believe that the light was working; next one, same thing. What looks like it should light up next to the selection button, doesn't. It's just a number dial with a back light. Oh well, it was inexpensive...now we'll see how long it lasts. I had expected better from Cuisinart.Customer Review: Very pleased with this purchase.

Very happy with this toaster. Compact, stylish, lots more features than I am used to, two wide slots that will accomodate everything from bread to bagels, heats quickly and true to the setting you set it on, and the one feature that I like best is the fact that I can raise the carriage all the way up to the top so that there is never again some small piece of something stuck in the bottom to burn every time I use the toaster. Have never had a Cuisinart toaster before, but know the quality of the brand and expected the same great quality in the toaster and it did not disappoint.Customer Review: Terrific Toaster!

We love our shiny white Cuisinart Toaster. It's definitely worth the [...] we spent -- a real bargain! We love that it toasts so much quicker and more evenly than the toaster oven we've been tolerating for the past several years. One minor drawback: my husband called me in to show me how the rye bread he was toasting was just a little too long for the slots. We don't see this as a huge deal, though. The bagel and defrost settings are great. I especially like the cool-touch feature -- no one gets burned if they need to handle this toaster immediately after using it.

When I first bought this toaster, I was disappointed with how hot it ran. The "2" setting was enough to brown most bread; a "3" setting burns just about anything. This on a machine that goes up to "9"! (Must be the nuclear fusion setting.)
The worst thing about this toaster is that it simply stopped working after less than one month. You push it down, but it doesn't stay.
Contemporary toasters are basically junk. We were fortunate enough to replace the Cuisinart with a hand-me-down, decades-old, made-in-USA Toastmaster. It works beautifully.
