Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart CPC-600 1000-Watt 6-Quart Electric Pressure Cooker, Brushed Stainless and Matte Black

Customer Review: Strike Three!
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this item a couple of years of go and absolutely loved it. I made several stews with it. Just about a year later, the cooker would no longer get up to pressure. Or when it did, it jumped right down to "keep warm". We contacted the manufacturer, and they sent a new cooker. Cooker number two made a few stews and then failed the same exact way. The manufacturer sent cooker number three. I opened it today, and prepared yet another meal to be cooked in the cooker. On first attempt, the cooker has failed...would not come up to pressure and counter dropped right down to zero. I can't tell you how much money has been wasted on the food that is not cooking in this appliance. As a last resort, my husband has pulled out the vacume cleaner and suctioned the red stopper up. It's currently set on the browning setting for the desired period of time. We will then set it to warm and let the "pressure" release itself. I'm hungry and am ready for a pizza, but we'll see what happens. I don't see myself using this method each time, so I think I'll call the company. Do you think I'll get a refund?

Customer Review: I don't know how I lived without it
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this item for about a month and fixed the majority of our meals in it since receiving it. I'm an old pressure cooker user from years ago and decided to get back into it after my ex got the old stove-top cooker as part of the settlement. This thing is head and shoulders above the old style cookers. I brown, saute or whatever, switch to pressure cooker mode and set the time at pressure and viola! dinner is ready in what seems an instant in comparison to conventional cooking. It turns itself to "keep warm" mode after being at pressure for the allotted time and comes with a typical quick pressure release. While I miss being able to put the pressure cooker under a cool stream of water to quick release, the convenience this appliance affords completely outweighs that minor inconvenience. I love it.

My one and only beef at this point is that it doesn't like going into high pressure mode after cooking, say, a big batch of soup. It complains at the already high temperature conditions, I guess. Other than that, I can't say enough good things about this product. Go get one!

Customer Review: My new best friend
Summary: 5 Stars

I have only had this a little bit more than a week but have used it almost non-stop. You should buy this book at the same time Pressure Perfect: Two Hour Taste in Twenty Minutes Using Your Pressure Cooker. It doesn't have any pictures(i like to see what the food looks like) but it will help make the best out of the PC purchase. Also get an immersion blender(necessary for soups) I have made fall of the bone pork shoulder, chicken stock, Cheese CAKE, brisket, several types of soup including pork chili, and they are all delicious and quick.

The only thing that I would say it doesn't do well is to brown onions or meat before you pressure cook them. It gets hot enough but the bottom of the pot is not big enough to do it right.

The best thing about it is the old Ron Papel saying "Set it and forget it", since it is electric it adjusts it's own temp and pressure and pressure release. Unlike the stove top kind which needs to be monitored.

Customer Review: The outside surface is not withstanding the test of time!
Summary: 3 Stars

Whenever I get a new appliance I use it a lot to become familiar with it and have consequenlty learned to pressure cook. I do like the speedy process and the delicious results, but my pressure cooker insert pot is wearing way before it's time. It's a non-stick surface and I have been VERY cautious to only stir with wooden or silicone kitchen spoons, etc, but the outside of the pot is the same finish and all along the outside base on the bottom the finish is wearing away. I've only had the pressure cooker 1 month and love the low maintenance aspect of the electric pressure cooker, but the eroding of the outside surface has me scared and wondering actually how good it is to be using a pot with the finish wearing away and exposed. There's been a lot of controversy with the non-stick type surfaces. I just bought myself a Kuhn-Rikon ALL stainless steel pot and now that I've learned to use a pressure cooker, I think I'm going to turn to the Swiss made brand instead. I'll have better peace of mind about knowing what vapors aren't leaching into my food at dinner time.

Customer Review: First thing I'd rescue from a kitchen fire!!

Cuisinart CPC-600 1000-Watt 6-Quart Electric Pressure Cooker, Brushed Stainless and Matte Black

This is the first time I have taken the time to write a review (about a kitchen product) because I love this product so much! I am famous for my twice dead rubber chicken and with this cooker I have made chicken that was not only NOT twice dead and rubber, but was actually delicious!! I have made homemade risotto 5 times using the stove top way and only ONCE out of those times was the risotto perfect. I have made it 3 times so far using the cooker (it is so darn easy and gets a 5 star yum from the family) and EVERY time is it perfect.

It is nice to have it cook as a stand alone and not to have to fiddle with it on the stove. It also browns GREAT and sautes Great and I just love this thing.

Take your time with the assembly and READ the directions and you will be able to put it together in minutes.

Love it!
