Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart CPC-600 1000-Watt 6-Quart Electric Pressure Cooker, Brushed Stainless and Matte BlackCustomer Review: It's a piece of junk Summary: 1 Stars
When I bought this from Amazon, I didn't use it right away. My husband used it once or twice and it seemed to work okay. Then when I tried to use it, it wouldn't work right. It would get up to temp and pressure but instead of going into it's timed cycle, it went straight to keep warm. We tried repeatedly. Same reults. When I tried to return it to Amazon, it had been more than 3 months and they would not take it back. My husband contacted Cuisinart and they sent out a new valve. That didn't fix it. Then they sent a whole new lid. That didn't fix it. Then they sent a whole new unit (although it appeared to have possibly been used and returned). It worked a couple times then the same problem as before. They sent a third whole new unit. My husband spent a day making multiple batches of bean soup. It worked fine. A week later when I tried it, again it went straight to keep warm instead of cooking. We are done with this unit. I will never buy another Cuisinart electronic product. My sister bought a Cook's Essentials electric pressure cooker from QVC and has had no problems with it. So I am going to QVC to see if I can find it. The Cuisinart product is going in the trash.
Customer Review: The pressures of life Summary: 3 Stars
I have always used a pressure cooker, as have my mother and grandmother before me. Yes, we are a long line of pressure women. I desperately wanted an electric one after my mother recieved hers from the home shopping network. I bought this one online from Amazon because I buy everything on amazon. This one is a little trickier than mom's. It is more difficult to get a seal and you have to take apart the lid, seal rings etc.. so clean up is more complex. It also takes longer to heat up and release. However, the cost was about half, and hers is unattainable any where and my have been recalled. We have used it with stews, roasts, soups, potatoes etc....After a little practice, it is no problem. If I want to cook more sizable portions, I still use the oven as I can cook 2 or 3 corned beef briskets, desert, etc... at the same time and in the same amount of time as the pressure cooker. It is best for one-pot family meals with limited left-overs. It has a pressure release so you can release fast of slow or intermittent and you don't have to carry a heavy pot to the sink and run cold water etc... This makes it much, much easier than the stove top version.
Customer Review: Has Revolutionized My Life Summary: 5 Stars
After many years of pondering whether I wanted a pressure cooker, I broke down and purchased this item. What a fool I was to have waited! This product has revolutionized my life. I absolutely cannot believe how easy it is to use, and the food is out-of-this-world delicious. I am a VERY busy working mother/grandmother, and we were eating out way too much - sometimes as much as 5 days a week. Since purchasing this item, I now cook at home almost all days, and I am usually able to have dinner on the table within 30-40 minutes. I cook both our side dishes and main dish in the cooker, sometimes separately, sometimes all together, depending on the recipe. The big bonus is that the food I prepare is very tasty and healthy. Every member of my family has lost weight, and we are saving money by not eating out. It's easy to clean - and the key is to keep it cleaned immediately and leave it out on your counter, ready to use. You will NOT be disappointed. You can also purchase an extra cooking insert pot and rack to make preparing multiple dishes even faster, which I will be purchasing as soon as I publish this review. Happy Cooking!
Customer Review: Finally over the fear of pressure cookers!! Summary: 5 Stars
It took a lot for me to trust the reviews, because my fear of pressure cookers goes back a long, long time! I couldn't wait for it to arrive, so I could try it out. Today! I cooked a New England Boiled Dinner...been cooking it traditionally on stove top for over 45 years! It was the best ever!!...in taste especially! I usually made a huge pot with a large "picnic" ham shoulder, but this time I purchased a slab about 1/2" thick, first quartered an onion and threw it in, then cut the "slab" in half and threw it in, three medium carrots about 2" slices threw in.. one tablespoon of "Pickling Spices" (McCormick's), peeled and cut in half two pototoes throw in, finally one very small cabbage (about size of grapefruit), quartered and covered top... then added water til it came to the bottom of cabbage! (this filled a little more than half of the 6 qt pot! Set timer HIGH pressure for 8 minutes! (Much smaller version of mine) Perfect!! My husband loved it.... very easy clean up!...Tomorrow is Curried Chicken and Rice! WELLA!!! Didn't even need a recipe book...BUT I did read all the instructions for use>> Very Important!
Customer Review: Terrible product -- stay away at all costs Summary: 1 Stars
The concept is good -- a pressure cooker that is independent of the stovetop, which can cook in its own space near any electrical outlet. It can also brown and saute in the same pan, which theoretically allows one pan to be used.
However the execution is horrendous. MOST of the time, it does not create a pressure lock which means the entire production is worthless. When I called to ask, Cuisinart asked if I were using one of their own recipes. This means you are limited to about 20 of their basic recipes-- others won't work in this poorly desinged and cheaply built machine. The problem is the cheap aluminum foil top which this thing relies on to build up pressure. It doesn't work, even on their own recipes. If any "moisture' gets behind the cheap aluminum foil, pressure does not build up. MOreover, the almost as poorly designed pressure release valve doesn't sit right on the top. There is no arrow or clear place for it to go, creating mroe of a potential for disaster. This is a huge disappointment, not worth anywhere near $100, in fact I would not take it if it were given away. A piece of trash.
