Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart CPC-600 1000-Watt 6-Quart Electric Pressure Cooker, Brushed Stainless and Matte BlackCustomer Review: Positively the best!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I've owned my Cuisinart Pressure Cooker for 6 months now, and I love this thing!! I have been using pressure cookers since the 1970s and I used my mother's before that. I have never been afraid of them because I was taught to use them properly. This unit is no exception. So, I will impart some little tricks on what I learned about this one.
First, you need to brown your meat, sauté your vegetables and heat any liquid to a boiling point before clamping down that lid. By doing this, the food tastes better and the pot comes to pressure in a minimum of time. Don't expect it to start from cold ingredients and not take additional time to come to pressure before cooking.
Second, all parts need to be scrupulously clean. This includes the inner lid, gasket and the locking lid itself. I put the inner lid and gasket in my dishwasher and make sure it's dry when I put it together. The locking lid needs to be cleaned under the cap that protects the pressure hole and the pressure gauge itself. No, it can't go into the dishwasher, but it still needs to be cleaned each and every time it's used. This will ensure a good seal. I also had no trouble reading the times needed to properly cook each and every different food. The manual is just fine. If you want a cookbook, buy one!
Customer Review: Perfect for the busy family! Summary: 5 Stars
With the kids in school, my own schoolwork, and everyone's busy schedule, we honestly just don't have a lot of time to cook. Too many nights, we would look in in the refrigerator, realize that cooking anything worthwhile would take too much time, and we'd end up ordering pizza or skipping dinner altogether.
So, I decided to try using a pressure cooker. I bought the Cuisinart pressure cooker at the local store and gave it a try. It really cuts down on cooking time, and the meals taste great! A full meal such as beef stew can be cooked in as little as 15 minutes. The food is moist and tender and tastes like it was cooking all day. I can't wait to try more recipes.
This pressure cooker is not your grandma's cooker! It's much safer. It's very easy to use. Very easy to clean up. It's very solid but not too heavy to manage. The top stays locked until the pressure has been released. And once the meal is done, it can keep food warm (even unplugged) with the top on for quite a while for those people who show up late for dinner.
This is something I'd recommend to people with busy lives. I think it would also make a fantastic housewarming gift or wedding gift as well as a great gift for the holidays.
Customer Review: Dinner in a hurry Summary: 4 Stars
Good product. Glad I didn't get anything smaller, because 6 quarts isn't as large as it sounds and a lot of the other pressure cookers are smaller. Contrary to what some of the other reviewers reported, I thought the instructions were fine. Funny thing about instructions; you have to read them. Anyhow, the removable cooking unit is great, the non-stick finish is also great, and you can put it in the dishwasher. The only problem that I have had is the little red pressure operated valve doesn't pop up as soon as I think it should. So the pressure cooker is losing steam out of this hole and won't start the pressure cooking process until the valve pops up and closes. I always stand by the cooker and tap on the case with my finger until the valve closes. The first time I used the cooker I didn't do that and it just sat there with steam coming out of the valve hole for a long time. I finally gave the lid a few taps and it popped right up. I think this is another case where so many safety devices have been added to a product to make it idiot proof that it almost keeps it from running at all. In conclusion, as long as you make sure it starts the cooking process successfully (the valve closes) it is a great cooker.
Customer Review: Pressure Cooking takes advantage of the computer age. Summary: 5 Stars
I really love this product. I have had 2 stove top pressure cookers in the past. I got a little nervous after purchasing a glass smooth top stove. My old pressure cooker would rock on it. I decided to purchase an electric pressure cooker and this one is so great! It has a nifty electronic menu for all the settings. You can practically set it and forget it. Set the pressure and the time and it does all the work, no need to monitor it to check when pressure begins, no need to keep an eye on the timer, this pressure cooker does all of that for you and will shut off and even keep the food warm. The pressure cooker is silent so, no more hissing. It is a beautiful appliance and matches my new stainless steel kitchen appliances as if they were made for each other.
An added feature is the removable non-stick food container, makes it handy to prepare the food, serve the food and wash the container. It also has measurements inside the container to show how much you are preparing. My only criticism is in the directions for the positioning of the pressure limit valve, you need to position it just right or it will hiss and the pressure will not come up. I definitely recommend this product.
Customer Review: the best money i ever spent Summary: 5 Stars
i wanted to purchase a pressure cooker for a long time and along with my wife's "you'll blow your face off with it" comments, there was also so many to choose from.
This cuisinart electric model answered all my problems, it does what it says it can and more!
it is SO easy to use, So fast and energy efficient, and it doesn't take up as much space as you would expect.
i use it almost every day and my family loves the food that comes out of it. Just the fact that we can have brown rice on the table in 20 minutes and cook dry beans in 25 minutes has changed the way we eat already. There are some really fantastic cook books out there now too, i checked out all that my library had and then bought the ones i liked.
we recently got rid of our crummy apartment stove and are now cooking 80% of our meals out of the pressure cooker, i cooked a prefect omelette this morning in it just by turing it on sauté and using it as a hot pan. in fact, there are many things you can cook in it without the lid on
Long story short, if you are looking to buy a pressure cooker, this is the one.
i wouldn't even trade it if my landlord bought me a new stove...
One more thing! [...]
