Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart CEC-7 Egg CookerCustomer Review: This egg baby rocks! Summary: 5 Stars
OMG, I love my egg baby ;) I don't know how I ever lived without it, perish the thought. I've had it a few months now--and I would've never thought that what seems at first glance a frivolous item, would be such a jewel. I eat boiled eggs every day, and used to dread having to boil them. They were always overcooked, and I'm lucky I maintained my sanity trying to peel them.
Now it's a snap. Cute design, looks great on the counter. Love the all-in-one cup and pin. Here's how easy it is (this is for 4 eggs):
1) Remove lid and grid. Fill cup with water to level on cup between 3 and 5 (no mark for 4). Pour water into base of unit. Replace grid.
2) Rinse off 4 eggs. Using cup-pin, poke holes in them, on largest end. Place them in grid, hole end up. (Rinse pin.)
3) Put the egg-shaped lid over them, slide switch to "On." (Light comes on.)
That's it! Then go about your business until it beeps. When it beeps, slide it to "Off" position. Remove eggs with tongs and place in cold water. Done :)
Other helpful tips:
*One person on here said she uses a smaller pin, but that's not really necessary. I had issues with it at first too. The pin is on the bottom of the cup. It fits over the top of the egg. At first, I was pushing straight down, and that tends to crack the egg and make a large hole. Instead, do more of a rotating motion, like drilling it into the egg, rather than pushing. Works great.
*I like to make things as simple as possible, so when I quickly rinse the eggs, rather than hauling out a bowl to put them in, I just put them back in the carton. Hey, ya' don't eat the shell, and it's not like rinsing them is disinfecting them--the heat of the machine should do that to any extent that it's needed. Maybe the rinsing somehow facilitates the cooking process, besides removing any little feathers or what-have-you :)
*Optional, but I like to set a timer for about 4 to 6 minutes after turning the egg cooker off, to give it time to cool a bit before removing the lid. But I think if you just lift the lid straight up and set it aside quickly, no worries about burning fingers. That extra few minutes also gives me time to wrap up whatever I'm in the middle of doing, so I can then tend to my egg baby ;)
*By the way, I purchased mine at BBB with a discount coupon. So I got a great price too, yay! :)
Anyway, hope that was helpful. Again, this is one of my dream machines. Love it. It is now up there in goodness with my Cuisinart convection oven, Vita-Mix, and manual Kitchen-Aid can opener. Note, I only do reviews of this sort when I truly love a product.
This egg baby rocks! :)
