Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart CBT-500 SmartPower 600-Watt Premier Power Blender, Brushed Stainless

Customer Review: If you can't pour it, what's the use?
Summary: 2 Stars

I just got this blender for my birthday and am reluctantly coming to the conclusion it must be returned. You just cannot pour whatever you blended without it spilling down the front of the blender. The squarish jar is about four inches wide and as you pour the contents come bearing down across the entire four inches. It's like Niagra Falls. There is no taper or anything directing your margarita or smoothie to the spout. Pouring out the corner doesn't work either; the angle is too wide.
If only I could get my milkshake out into the glass it would be a great blender.
On another note, several reviewers complained about motors burning out and blade assemblies melting. The first time I set the blender up and turned it on, it made a loud noise and the blades did not turn. It is very easy to seat the jar solidly on the base WITHOUT the blade mechanism engaging with the motor.

Customer Review: Why can't it pour?
Summary: 3 Stars

An expensive purchase that I spend alot of time thinking about before I bought it. Once I made the leap I was thrilled with my new blender, powerful, practical, something I would be able to use for many years to come.

Once it was cleaned and put together I put it to use and everything was great until I tried to pour out what I had made. The spout on the glass jar is useless! While the liquid pours out some also dribbles over the spout, down the front of the jar and in between the base and the jar so you would always have to pull the assembly apart to clean it.

Considering everything you make in a blender has to be poured out I am very disappointed and will probably return this blender.

If this blender could pour as well as the rest of it works I would give it five stars but my disappointment means 3 stars at the most, which isn't enough to warrant the price I paid.

Customer Review: Exactly What I Wanted But.....
Summary: 4 Stars

I have thoroughly enjoyed this blender. It is very very very noisy but it is also powerful. Be sure to wear ear plugs when using it.

Until this purchase, I had always used Osterizer products as they were easily available in second hand stores, and, on trips to Mexico, I could find colorful aluminum versions of the bowl to make margaritas with (Coyoacan market).

This week, the gears on my work bowl tore. The same thing happened on a friend's Kitchen Aid equivalent. For them it was a real difficulty getting the repair. Although I am disappointed that this happened just over 1.5 years since purchase, mine will be easily fixe. However, although the Cuisinart carries a 3 year warranty against defects in workmanship, I will still have to pay $10 for postage and handling, plus my costs to send them the part!!!! That doesn't seem fair somehow.

Customer Review: We returned it
Summary: 1 Stars

We just used this blender for the first time to make smoothies and although it does chop things up well (I had no problem putting frozen fruit in) getting the stuff out is where we ran into trouble. If you're pouring into a big bowl than you're in luck, but if you're pouring into a glass (like we are) than you'll need some luck. The spout is so wide that the contents of the blender just pour over the whole side, so you get your contents in the glass and all over your counter top.

In addition, to get the blender to pulse you have to press ON, then Pulse, than high or low - seems like a lot for pulse. Also, once you turn it on if you forget to press the OFF button it stays on, seems like a danger in the kitchen waiting to happen to me.

Anyway - we no longer have this blender as we returned it after several failed pouring attempts.

Customer Review: Poor Customer Serivce from Cuisinart
Summary: 1 Stars

I have had this Cuisinart blender less than 5 years and used it fewer than 15 times and it already completely stopped working. I only used the blender for very simple, low impact recipes (to puree soups, make hummus and mix milkshakes) so its performance was particularly disappointing.

When I emailed Cuisinart regarding the situation and received a prompt call back, I had great expectations for the customer support Cuisinart would provide. I was very disappointed when the telephone representative told me to "go buy a new one" because the repairs would cost more than purchasing a new blender. It is unfortunate that this was the best response Cuisinart could muster.

After reading several online reviews and talking with friends, it seems that poor customer serivce is now standard from Cuisinart.
