Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart CBT-500 SmartPower 600-Watt Premier Power Blender, Brushed Stainless

Customer Review: Reinforce your counters
Summary: 4 Stars

I have yet to see a blender do everything perfectly. This blender isn't likely to go very far on your counter; maybe not because you'll use it all the time, but because it's a pain to lift. Good if you have dedicated bar space, but you'd like to be able to use it for regular kitchen work too. I don't really use a blender for chopping, the knife and kitchen robot are better for me, but for liquids it's the way to go.

Questionable features are the digital timer and flashing lights, I don't know about Cuisinart's forays into electronics. I would expect those things to fail before the motor. And why a glass jar with a "durable" plastic handle, huh? As if they were trying to save weight on this one. It's some unnecessary cost-cutting that lowers the robustness a bit and makes cleaning a little trickier.

Separate ice crushing button and being able to add things through the top are both helpful features, and the warranty is excellent, they will usually stand by their products.

Customer Review: AMAZING!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this blender!! I chose the brushed stainless, and It's a replacement for the off-brand blender I used to own. When I bought that one, I was younger and on a budget, but I should have invested in this one instead the first time. My smoothies, blended coffees, and Margaritas don't have ice chunks in them anymore!!! Cleanup is so easy - pop all removeable parts except the blade & the rubber ring into the top rack of your dishwasher!
For chopping things, I generally use my Cuisinart DFP-14BC 14-Cup Food Processor (Brushed Stainless), but the blender does work wonderfully for chopping nuts & emusifying herbs & things if you don't own a food processor. For liquids, it's truly the best in its class. I'm a guy, so I can't really say whether or not it's unreasonably heavy - the weight of the item doesn't seem unreasonable to me. Besides, I store mine on my counter anyway; if you have the space, why not when it looks as great as it does!! Don't hesitate - buy one today!! =)

Customer Review: So far - GREAT!

While renting a place in So. California for the winter the Waring RB75 blender here died after 5 weeks of use. It was new when we got here so we called the owner. We were told where she bought it so we returned it for a Krups KB720. We kept that exactly two days. It didn't work well and smelled of burning rubber when in use. We have a Cuisinart at home so decided to get one for this place. This is a different model than ours but it fits in with the decor here and I have to say it works PERFECTLY! Yes it only has two speeds, but really, how many speeds do you need? And it does not smell like burning rubber when it is used. I like that it comes apart for cleaning - something the Waring did not do. I don't know what these other reviewers were doing with their blenders that they gave it such poor reviews but with the Cuisinart I'm finally able to make my morning smoothie without lumps, chunks or hassles. Next up...Margaritas!

Customer Review: Used to love it, now I'm grossed out
Summary: 2 Stars

I have had this blender for 3-4 years. I have not had any trouble with smoking, and the noise never bothered me. Although I have had trouble with messy pouring, this blender has made hundreds of wonderful smoothies over the years. However, recently I have started noticing several problems when I look inside the glass:
1. There is rust on the inside of the metal bands that circle the container near the top and the bottom.
2. There is mold and rust between the metal base and the container.
3. I've never been able to get the metal base off the bottom so I can't get in there to clean, and now it looks like some mold is coming through by the rubber gasket at the bottom.

I called Cuisinart and they offered to sell me a new container for $40. I think the design of this model is flawed and that they should replace it for free. I would not recommend this model of blender to anyone.

Customer Review: Terrible mixer - huge disappointment
Summary: 1 Stars

I'll repeat what others have said. I've owned this for about three years, used it very infrequently for frozen fruit smoothies, when the black plastic gear housing sheared off from the base, rendering the blades useless. I called Cuisinart and was advised to buy a new gear assembly, which wasn't the problem. I hate throwing away good money after bad. When I called back, customer service seemed in denial of this obvious engineering flaw, and wanted me to pay to ship the heavy base and pay to repair it. I realize it was just past warranty, but given my infrequent use and the company's bad design, I just felt that Cuisinart should make things right for the expensive product they sold. My $30 Black and Decker blender has outperformed this $100 Cuisinart. If customer service dealt with this issue, I would have given them another chance, but now I will always avoid and never recommend Cuisinart.
