Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart BFP-703CH SmartPower Duet Blender and Food Processor, ChromeCustomer Review: Useless Junk Summary: 1 Stars
The food processor container is too small for 85% of my prep needs. It's just large enough to shred a couple of carrots or a quarter of a very small cabbage at a time. It's too small to make even one pie crust at a time, never mind two.
The blender is over sized but it's also pathetically inefficient. How hard can it be to make a smoothie with frozen fruit, for Pete's sake? As noted elsewhere, it's very loud and smells like burning electrical elements every time I've used it for the past year.
I bought this in order to save on storage space by combining two appliances in one. As it turns out I got three-fourths of a gadget in one. Hopefully it will wear out soon (a pretty good bet) so I can replace it with two real appliances. Cuisinart usually makes quality products so this dog was quite a disappointment.
Customer Review: I have the blender and it broke after only 1-1/2 years! Summary: 1 Stars
My husband and I received this blender as a wedding gift and it worked wonderfully until one day when we were making smoothies, the black piece that spins (connected to the base) completely broke! We were very frustrated because we've probably used the blender ten times since we received it. We were planning on getting Cuisinart to replace it, however after reading all of the reviews, I've decided to get rid of it (it never seemed that solid anyway)and buy another blender. No blender should break after such a short period of time and to have horrible customer service in addition to the breakage is unacceptable. Blenders should last at least a good ten years or more, especially with limited usage. I would recommend avoiding all Cuisinart blenders. The normal food processors are awesome, but the blenders leave little to be desired.
Customer Review: Works well but very loud Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this dual product based on a previous purchase of the Cuisinart blender as well as a recommendation of a friend. My previous blender worked (still works in fact) very well for the five years I owned it. I took this into consideration when purchasing this dual unit.
I have not had any issues using the blender or the food processor. The blender is a bit loud but it is a blender. The food processor on the other hand really does require ear plugs as others have noted.
I purchased a dual unit as I have a very small kitchen and did not really have much use for a food processor. Now that I have one, I would love to use it but I feel bad for using it in worry that I will bother my neighbors.
In retrospect, I would probably save my pennies and when I had a larger kitchen, buy a separate unit.
Customer Review: Too Noisy for Baby Summary: 3 Stars
About 6 months ago, I purchased the Duet so that I could puree fruits and veggies for my son who just started eating solids. I used the food processor about once a week for 4-5 months for this purpose. When I first started using the food processor, I thought it was quite loud. My son would cry whenever I used it, so I only used it when someone else was around to take him outside. In the last month, the noise got worse. The machine started a high pitched whine when I started or stopped it. I started wearing ear plugs when using it -- at which time I decided enough is enough. I called Cuisinart for assistance. They said I'd have to ship it to them for repair, which would be a big hassle since I no longer have the box and it would cost $. Today I purchased a KitchenAid food processor. I would not recommend the Duet.
Customer Review: Could be better Summary: 3 Stars
I bought my Duet about 4 years ago, mostly because it was a Cuisinart.
Blender: The blender has served me very well, but I plan to replace it because I believe the shape is a design flaw. The wide base makes for incomplete mixing, so you get chunks of fruit, ice, etc. left behind in an otherwise smooth mixture. I'm shopping now for a blender that's narrower at the base.
Food Processor: I was careless with the food processor base & got water inside it, so be careful washing!! After replacing that part, I still agree that it is WAY TOO LOUD. It worked alright, but now that I have a full-size Cuisinart, I will never use it again.
I plan to give my Duet to my little sister, who doesn't have a food proicessor or a blender, but I'll tell her to use ear plugs.
