Customer Review: Very Nice Blender and Food Processor in One

I recently decided to give the BFP-10CH a try, since I have had great success with Cuisinart products, and I was similarly pleased with this device. I had read occasional reports that the blender could not handle ice, and I found that this was not true - it crushed 15 cubes with no problem. I did not find that this unit was any louder than any other blender/food processor I have owned (although it is by no means quiet). I have tried several of the recipes on the blender and food processor side, and have found that it performed the task perfectly. I found this to be the case even if I accidentally missed a key part of the directions - the first time I made a Mocha Frappe, I accidentally poured the espresso into the blender when it was steaming hot - the gasket did not melt, and the sudden shock from the ice did not cause cracking (although I wouldn't recommend disregarding these directions).
Some people have expressed surprise that the unit was plastic with a chrome finish, instead of actual chrome. I was not surprised at all by this. A blender or food processor that was actually made out of metal would have easily cost $200 - $800 more than this device, to the extent that they are even made for home use anymore.
The main reason that I give it a four-star rating instead of a five:
1) I had not heard this from any of the other reviews, but I found that I have to force the plastic blender collar onto the base of the machine - it does not fit easily like other blenders I have owned. Since no one else has reported this problem, I am considering ordering a new collar - perhaps mine was a fluke. (Follow up: I wanted to do a follow-up on one minor point - I had said that you had to force the collar to fit. I was wrong about that (which is probably why no one else mentioned it) - the collar was not defective. I was defective. In the user manual, I saw a picture of the blender jar sitting at a right angle - the jar will not fit that way, nor was it designed to - that was just the way they had to show it in the technical diagram. If you sit the collar with the jar handle at about a 45-degree angle, it will fit right on the base with no problems - just like any other blender. LOL. About 90 days (3 months) and still going strong.)
2) I do get that electrical smell when using the device - although, at this point, I am chocking it up to it being a new machine - the residual cardboard flakes could easily cause something like that initially. Also, it is a heavy-duty machine. (Follow-up: I have since had a chance to test many other blenders, and I found that any blender with a motor greater than 350 watts and an open ventilation system will produce this smell - it is not new-ness, per se, but just the sign of a powerful motor).
3) Although I have always been able to pour from the blender without spillage, the rectangular top of the blender jar always gives me the feeling that if I poured the contents out in just the wrong way, liquid could spill from areas other than the pour spout. (On the other hand, the shape of the jar is designed so that you can pour tomato sauces into a mixing bowl or other serving bowl with ease, so I have come to see this feature as very smart - it lets you adjust the pour according to what you are making).
Besides these minor complaints, the device has performed even beyond my expectations. I have been attached to my parents' Kitchen Aid blender for quite some time, and I believe the Cuisinart blender outperforms the Kitchen Aid. I would definitely recommend this product.
