While the purchase price of this knife set was a bargain, there were some kinks in the merchandise.
As many reviews have stated, there were the cracked handles but there was an interesting revelation that there was a reason for quality in the whole of the Cusinart lines! Cuisinart has been purchased by Lifetime Brands ( parent to a host of subsidiaries----Hersheys, Farberware,and many more) who have cheapened and consolidated product lines. The lifetime warranties are still honored if one will contact Lifetime Brands.
We will see if the follow through is as good as the initial contact but they do sound reasonable.
The quality of all Cuisinart products will now be suspect--CAVEAT EMPTOR!!

I've always liked Cuisinart so I didn't mind taking a chance on this one. I'd been shopping around for a quality knife set with sharpener for a few months and couldn't seem to find anything decent, certainly not in this price range. I went ahead and purchased this set and I couldn't be happier with it. I would recommend this set to friends and family. In fact, my parents recently bought a knife set (a few months before I purchased this one), they picked it up at a Home Show and were well impressed with them. However, just a short while later they aren't quite so keen on them anymore. I wish I had found this set sooner... they paid a lot more for their set and they aren't quite as nice as the Cuisinart.Customer Review: Nice knives for a low price

It's good to finally have some knives that actually do what they are made for - cutting! I have no complaints about this set and have gotten nice compliments about it from visitors who have noticed the block on my kitchen counter.
I do see what others have mentioned about the handle plastic. Mine are not cracked, but the red is lighter in some areas. Other than that, this set is excellent quality and was a terrific value for under $30. If any of the handles crack, I'll contact Cuisinart. After all, they do come with a lifetime warranty! Oh, by the way, when you open the box it is clearly marked with a warning to wash these knives by hand and not use a dishwasher.

This is the worst Knife set I have ever purchased. Every single piece started rusting and pitting after the FIRST use. Extremely poor quality and no answere from Cuisinart. I am very disappointed because I own several Cuisinart appliances and am very pleased with them so I assumed the quality would carry over.
WRONG!!!! If ever a knifeset should be recalled and all customers reimbursed...this is it.
I implore AMAZON and every other retailer that offers these items for sale to discontinue. Cuisinart needs to stick to the appliance business and whoever manufacrutes that knives in China should be sued.

Customer Review: Great at first, but now the handles are cracking

I received this set as a wedding gift, and have used many knives daily for the past 3.5 years. Some time ago I noticed that the larger chef's knife developed a major crack in the handle. Many of the steak knives too, have begun cracking. I do a lot of cooking and baking, so I do use them frequently. However, I have never once put any of this in the dishwasher. I wash each knife carefully by hand, and they are always treated with care. I do hope to upgrade to a nicer quality set sometime in the future, but for now I am stuck with them. It is a nice looking set, but if you are looking for long lasting durability and quality, keep looking.
