Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart 21-Piece Knife Set with Block and Bonus Poly Cutting BoardCustomer Review: Great Looking But Manufacturing Flawed Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this set because it was a great deal and I desperately wanted a nice knife set. Cuisinart is a well-known and trusted name and with a lifetime warranty I thought it was worth the risk. My set arrived today and 6 of the 17 knives have cracks on the handles at the rivets. Most of these cracks are fairly small in size, with one large one. I worry what will happen when hot water gets into those cracks.
This is a great looking set, no doubt about that, and I did only pay $35 for it (the price was $30 this morning), but I am disappointed that so many of the knives are damaged. I have contacted Cuisinart through their website to see what can be done to resolve this, so we'll see. Still, I figure a 14-piece set for $35 isn't so bad, as long as they hold up and don't have the same problem as the others. Just be aware of what you're getting into if you buy this set.
Customer Review: rusting stainless Summary: 3 Stars
My first imression was, great looking sharp knives. I was excited, then came the "surprise". After the first use of the knives, I didn't wash them immediately, the result was, lots of stubborn rust spots on most of them.
I never had stainless steel utensils (even lot cheaper ones!!!) rusting in my household before. I am very dissatisfied becouse of it. I wanted to send it back, but I got an injury and I got busy, so I didn't do it. The reason I still gave 3 stars is that they cut good enough so far.
Besides the rust, it came with some imperfections on some of the blades, nothing major. I used them about a month now and some of them needs sharpening (I haven't sharpened them yet).
The set is definately not the quality the original price indicates. Other then the above mentioned, it is a useful set.
I would NOT recommend because of the rusting.
Customer Review: decent after sharpening Summary: 3 Stars
I have bought 2 sets of these knives. For the price they are great. It's a crap shoot as to whether they are properly sharpened, however. I had to sharpen half of both sets. They do sharpen to a minor razor edge, without much effort. I have not polished the edge to see just how sharp they can get... There can be some imperfections but generally everything was acceptable with fit and finish ( considering the price ) These are everyday use knives and quite a collection at that! The small santuko is my favorite. I use the steak knives as utility knives. As with ANY knife, DO NOT put in the dishwasher. Simply wipe them off or clean them with dishwashing soap and IMMEDIATELY dry them and put them away! This will properly care for any knife and make it last for generations. Remember, it's a tool and must be cared for or it will not perform properly when you need it!
Customer Review: Very poor quality. Terrible handles. Summary: 1 Stars
I was so excited to find these knives on sale for $49.99, but that excitement was short-lived. When I unwrapped the knives I thought the plastic of the handles looked a little strange, and on closer inspection I found there were small cracks at the rivets on many of the knives. I knew these tiny cracks would only get bigger with use, so I returned the set to amazon for a replacement. But when I received the replacement set, I found that one of the knives had a big crack all the way through the handle; back again to amazon for a replacement. Third time's a charm, right? Wrong! More like three strikes, you're out! Once again, one of the knives had a big crack in the handle. So, I gave up and just sent the knives back to amazon for a refund. Obviously, these are just some really poorly made knives. Don't waste your time.
Customer Review: A little cheap... but so was the price Summary: 4 Stars
So, while I am not crazy about the color, I must say I was surprised that these didn't turn out nearly as bad as I was prepared for after reading the reviews. Some cheap plastic on the sharpener handle, and overall they weren't as heavy as I was hoping; however, for $35 these are quite the nice set, and have a nice assortment of knives for everyday use. The block is a huge piece of wood - hard to fit it where my other knives went, but the entire set is a head turner.
I could spend some time talking about metal quality etc, but at this price point, it is a functional and impressive knife set. Don't spend too much time agonizing over a $35 purchase. And don't buy these for much more. The price seems to fluctuate DAILY at the moment, so just keep your eyes peeled for it to drop... it will.
