Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart 21-Piece Knife Set with Block and Bonus Poly Cutting Board

Customer Review: Decent quality for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this item when it was on sale for $50 with free shipping so my rating takes that under consideration.

The knives have decent weight to them and cut as they should. Most blades are straight edge, there are two serrated ones and two chopping knives with indentations on the side so that food separates easily or by itself from the blade. I especially like the weight of handle which is pretty substantial on each knife.

I haven't noticed any rusting problems with my set after several wash-and-let-it-dry cycles using a sponge and dish washing liquid. All knives arrived without any kind of defects.

The set includes sharpening tool, so this is self sufficient kit. The cutting board is small, just enough for one sandwich or that one onion action.

The set is not comparable to my Cutco's set, however the price for one Cutco knife is about or more than what this whole set costs, so no complains here.

I hope this was helpful.

Customer Review: A very nice set for the price
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a very nice complete set of everyday knives for the price (in fact the price here is significantly less here than the local wholesale club). They are sturdy and sharp. They even look nice. The matching cutting board is a nice touch.

To keep these sharp I use a ceramic knife sharpener by Smith's. You can find them for less than $10. If you can't find it here, places like Lowes have them. You slide you blade through 3 or 4 times every once in a while and it keeps these knives as sharp as a razor.

People have mentioned that the steak knives are "flimsy" that has not been my experience. Cuisinart either changed the steak knives or I just keep mine so sharp there's no reason for them to bend. Funny thing is, most guests comment how much they like the steak knives and that gets them interested in the whole set - go figure.

I purchased another set of these and put them away, that's how much I like them.

Customer Review: Very low quality for the price
Summary: 1 Stars

There are several reasons for the low rating. First of all, when I first ordered this beautifully looking (on the picture) set I was surprised to see quite different color of the handles when the knifes were unpacked. It not as bright red as pictured, but very dull color. Secondly, some of the knives were defective - curving blades, deep scratches and minor cracks on the handles. The set was exchanged by Amazon quick and without any hassle. The replacement set was slightly better, but still not perfect. The main complaint right now is rusting. You basically have to wash and dry the knives immediately after use, otherwise they will get covered with rust spots really quick - this is what happened to one of my knives after I left on the table for a few hours after slicing a tomato. It's a huge hassle to do, especially if you are cooking a big dinner and use a lot of knives. Unfortunately, I have to strongly recommend staying away from this set.

Customer Review: READ REVIEWS BEFORE BUYING!
Summary: 1 Stars

Yep, I bought these on black Friday special for $35 without reading the reviews. Couple hours later, still stoked from my great deal, I read the reviews. Not wanting to miss out on a great price, I saw the Pinzon knives also on sale and bought those. Glad I did...My Cuisinart knives are cracked as well. SUCH a disappointment.

I already have a 5 inch Cuisinart santoku knife (purchased from BB&B) that I LOVE. I haven't had any issues with that one. I compared mine with the one that came with the set, and you can CLEARLY see the difference in quality. I suspect that the Amazon set was made by another manufacturer with little quality control. The Amazon set has cracks, black dings and there was even a sliver of the plastic in one of the baggies.

I still like the Cuisinart brand, but will be more cautious next time.

One other note: DO NOT put good knives in the dishwasher!

Customer Review: Plastic handles seem to be a problem in every set
Summary: 3 Stars

I received the knives and as other customers had stated the handles have cracks in them. My daughter purchased the same set the same day and her set had 6 knives with handles cracked. She was sent a new set and told to remove the knives she needed and then return the defective set. When the second set came two of the same knives had cracks so this could go on and on. My cracks were small and I decided to just eat the defect. For a good name such as Cuisinart you would not expect this low quality product. It seems clear Cuisinart is well aware of this by all the postings with the same complaint. Perhaps the plastice they are using does not stand up well when they are pressing the plastic and metal together as the cracks sprial out from the stud area. I would try to get mine replaced except as I said it could be a revolving door to hit on the exact ones you need not being cracked in another set.
