I had really good luck with the pasta maker. The handle does fall out. You just have to be aware of it and watch. The pasta dough dries out quickly.. To keep the pasta moist I dotted water on it as I was working it.. Then would fold it in half and continue on with.. This worked really great.. The cutters don't always cut the pasta fully.. But a little effort pulling the rest apart is well worth it since the pasta tastes so great.. It was the best plate of spaghetti we'd ever had.. This machine can give you a very nice shaped pasta if you prepare the dough with bread machine. However, it will also return you a pasta sheet with a lot of BLACK, SILVER IRON POWDER. Inititally, I though it is a normal manufacturing problem, and it could be cleaned by passing the dough for several times. Unfortunately, I repeated this process for over two hours (more than 50 times), it still returned me the same thing and with the same amount of IRON POWDER. I don't recommend this machine unless you know how to clean it entirly.Customer Review: Al Dente pasta set

I love this machine. I always wanted to try my hand at making pasta and this machine is great. I have learned that making pasta is very time consuming, but I have already used it on three rainy Sundays and it is a fun thing to do if you are not in a hurry. The pasta looks great and tastes great as well. I've tried everything except the ravioli...that will be next. Pour yourself a nice glass of wine and take your time, you will have fun and be proud of your creations. I highly recommend this particular pasta maker!Customer Review: Pasta maker

My Son is going to school to be a chef with Le Cordon Bleu, he asked for a hand cranked pasta maker for christmas. I was lost until I went to Amazon.com they not only gave me a selection but educated me on the different components and features. We settled on the V178 Al Dente 5 peice pasta set, as it makes 5 diffent kinds. It came right away and was packed very well, my son was so thrilled and brought it to class, 5 other students went on line and ordered one!!!!!Customer Review: works fine, except for the handle updated

The unit worked fine, but the handle kept on falling out of the unit and onto the floor. I must have picked it up 20 times, now the plastic part does not stay on the handle and I have to use it without it, which is not a problem.
------- UPDATE
after using the machine twice, the rollers won't turn anymore in the highest settings when dough is passed through, i.e. pressure is applied to them. The attachments work fine.
