Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of CucinaPro 177 Pasta Fresh Pasta Machine

Customer Review: A Fairly Good Machine
Summary: 4 Stars

We've enjoyed this pasta machine for several months. It's hard to imagine that we ever enjoyed boxed pasta from the supermarket, since it's so easy to make your own, and the taste and texture of your own made pasta is out of this world. This is a great starter machine, simple to use, easy to clean, and one that is built like a Sherman Tank, and can easily be passed on to the next generation. The only reason it is not getting 5 stars from us is the thickness selection knob. Oh how very frustrating it is trying to turn it when your hands are coated with flour, as they would be when making pasta! The know is stainless steel smooth, and virtually impossible to turn without deliverate and hard pressure. It's hard to imagine why by now the manufacturer hasn't put some cross-checkering design to allow to have some traction. Other than that, we highly recommend it.

Customer Review: Unless You Like Rusty Pasta
Summary: 1 Stars

I got my own Villageware pasta maker a couple of years ago, and as much as I enjoy homemade pasta, this machine makes it not worth the effort.
I really liked the machine for the first couple of uses. I had great pasta and it tasted better than anything you can get in a store.
After the first couple of uses however, (that were incredibly difficult because I lack a counter that I can clamp the machine onto) it began to rust. I havent used it since. I dont want rust in the pasta, and the only way to clean off the rust it with chemicals I dont want in the pasta.
If you take *exceptional* care of the machine, have the patience to hold the pasta and the machine at the same time, and dont mind flaking chrome after a couple of years, then this machine is fine.
Otherwise, I would suggest spending a little more money and getting a stainless machine.

Customer Review: Villaware Imperia Pasta Machine
Summary: 5 Stars

Many of the negative comments are unfounded, blaming the machine for problems that should be attributed to the dough. When using this machine I make stiff dough with (about) 1-1/2 cups of unbleached white flour, 1-1/2 cups of semolina flour, 2 eggs, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, and 2 tablespoons of water. I also sprinkle flour on the dough before running it through the rollers. I prefer to only run the pasta through to the number "5" setting. If you run it through the "6" setting you'll have very thin (angle hair) noodles; nothing wrong with that, I just prefer the cooked texture when it's a bit thicker. It takes about 45 minutes from flour to finished noodles. I clean up with a dry towel, no big deal. My only complaint, and it's minor, is that the handle occasionally falls out when I'm cranking pasta through the rollers. Overall, a simple and elegant machine.

Customer Review: An Easy Way To Enjoy Fresh Pasta
Summary: 4 Stars

Ignore the negative reviews. There is NO mess when you make proper dough. For the first time, I made a "dough" of flour and water. When the consistency was good I ran it through the machine to "clean" out any excess oil.

I made a big batch of lasagna noodles. The machine easily clamped to my kitchen table and soon I had beautiful big pieces of finished dough. There was nothing left on the machine to clean. I simply dusted it with a soft cloth and put it away.

This is simple enough to use regularly. Next time I will make a couple of batches of various types of pasta and freeze some for later use.

This is MUCH, MUCH better than the electric extruder-type past makers. When all else fails, read the instructions and you'll have perfect pasta that's 100x better than store-bought.

Customer Review: Villaware Imperia Pasta Machine
Summary: 4 Stars

I noticed poor reviews for this pasta machine and felt the need to defend the product. I think it worked just fine. As stated in previous reviews it does take some time to get used to however the result far exceeds the difficulties encountered. As for the cleaning some complaints were of rusting. It clearly states not to wet but wipe with a dry cloth. By following the instructions I found it worked wonderful. I attached it to my counter and thought with the small overhang it would not hold, to my surprise it held perfect and did not shake or wabble. I thought working a full time job and then to come home and make homade pasta would be impossible. I use it all the time. Boxed pasta is so cheap but it taste that way too. I have had this item for a few months I have bought 2 for friends and absolutely LOVE IT!
