Customer Review: Boils, Burns, & Sticks
Summary: 1 Stars

I've had Rival Crockpots since the early 70's and they were all great. Then I got THIS. Wanted to cook large quantites to have plenty of leftovers, BUT...this pot is only good if I want to boil meat. Beans, potatoes, and stews burn and stick badly. Meatloaf looks like a burnt offering for the "gods". I can't even simmer corned beef and cabbage while I'm at work - by the time I get home, even if the pot is on the lowest setting, the water has boiled low and the meat is sticking because the bottom got far too hot. This is NOT a good investment. Unfortunately, I didn't do my research before purchasing it. Am now looking at Hamilton Beach products as they all seem to be getting very high ratings both on-line and with people I know. I use to swear by Rival Crockpots, but not not anymore. BTW, the newest version has a hinged lid for "buffet serving". It is NOT a good thing either as you can't get the lid to move out of the way in order to remove the liner to clean it. So...what's the point?

Customer Review: programmable timer
Summary: 3 Stars

I have had this crock pot for several years, and until two weeks ago, loved it. Yes, I had burned some pulled pork, never thought that it was the crockpot's fault, had dried out some chili, again, thought it was me, had some food stick thinking they all do that. Two weeks ago the timer went haywire. True to form, I thought I did something wrong to accidentally turn it off. But today, after checking it five or six times thru the morning, and each time it had turned itself off, I am in the market for a replacement. I have read the reviews and was surprised to see all the complaints about "too hot" and "burning" and worse yet...the crock cracking! I have had several crockpots, including my original wedding shower gift in 1970 (ended up selling in a garage sale when I moved - should have NEVER done that) and never had issues with any of them. I wanted to "upgrade" to a larger better, hi tech appliance when I bought this cooker. Now I don't know which to buy???!!!

Customer Review: literally fell apart
Summary: 1 Stars

I think the idea of having a "6 hour" or "8 hour" setting is nice (when it reaches the end of its time it automatically switches to warm) so in case you're running late getting home or something dinner isn't as likely to burn.

We use our slow cooker constantly, and one of the things I use it for all the time is making stock (so I set the bones simmering all day long). The first time I made stock the plastic handle melted and came off.
I couldn't afford a new cooker at the time so I kept on using it...but obviously it's a pain to not have a decent handle on the lid.
Now (a year later) the side handle on the base has broken as well...try lugging one of these babies around with one missing handle (and of course I don't dare use the other one because I'm afraid it will break too).
I will never buy 'crock pot' brand again. And I will make sure that my future slow cookers do not have any plastic parts!!

Customer Review: Fantastic!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had this pot for 2-3 years now and love it. I have read the other reviews and am in total disagreement with people who say this crock pot burns food. No way near the truth, I have cook a rump roast to pefection in mine that you could cut it with a fork, talk about tender and full of taste. I think the secret is to get the amount of liquid that you use to slow cook correct. And what a convenience that roast I put on Saturday night before bed set it for 8 hours (it was a good size roast) and when I got up my main entree was done!! how much better can it get, plus I have used my cooker for vegetables and soups. Effortless cooking!!!
Anyone who complains about this crock pot should buy themselves a slow cooker receipe book and try some of the receipes and trust me they will be a believer like myself. Oh did I mention that I own two!!! I can cook a whole dinner without standing over any stove or watching an oven.

Customer Review: Ouch - Blistered burnt thumb from the cover handle melting off!
Summary: 1 Stars

I'm actually on my 2nd of this model. After a few uses, the first one would just shut off after a couple hours. That makes for a very unpleasant surprise when arriving home from work expecting dinner. Costco was good to take that one back and I got another of the same model. This one has been fine, but recently, I've noticed that it is getting progressively hotter. To the point that I'm not confident leaving it unattended. I agree with other posters that it is much too hot on any setting and I have been slow cooking for 30 years. This evening I was lifting the lid off the pot to serve dinner and the handle came right off the cover and I burned my hand in the process of trying to juggle the cover. The plastic on the handle is actually melted! Could that be a result of the pot getting to hot?? This one is going back to Costco too, but I'll be shopping around for a better replacement.
