Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Crock-Pot SCR151-WG 1-1/2-Quart Round-Shaped Manual Slow Cooker, WhiteCustomer Review: great product! Summary: 5 Stars
I was surprised by what poor reviews most of the crock pots received on amazon.com, but I decided to buy this little one when I saw it at Target for $9.99. Figured even if it didn't work well, that's not much money to lose! Well, this is my first crock pot and I love it. I'm glad there's one this small. I usually fill it only half way and then have leftovers, but it could probably feed a family of four without leftovers. A lot of reviews for other crock pots said that the lids often fit poorly, but the lid on mine is perfect. I've used it seven times so far and everything has been wonderful! I particularly like the applesauce recipe that comes with the crock pot, it makes the best applesauce ever and it's nice to just peel them the night before and wake up to hot applesauce (also good over ice cream). Keep in mind that the crock pot only has the low heat setting, but I haven't had any trouble cooking recipes that call for the high setting in here. Just takes a bit longer. Also, it's not tough at all to convert recipes for larger crocks to fit this one. Mine doesn't have any problem with cooking to hot, maybe it was just the other reviewer's crock pot. I would recommend this to anyone, it's well worth the money!
Customer Review: Cute and nice size--but no temperature control Summary: 3 Stars
This crock pot is the perfect size to make steel cut oats overnight. It perfectly holds my normal recipe of four cups water to 1 cup oats.
But I should have read the reviews before buying as I did not realize there would be no temperature control! This crockpot's single setting is supposed to be equivalent to low on most crockpots, but as other reviews note it is a little warmer than that. I sleep eight or nine hours and that is way too long to cook oatmeal on low-medium. I will be buying another brand of 1.5 quart crockpot to cook my oatmeal, with three temperature settings. I plan to add an external timer to it made by Rival; Rival claims its Timer works on most brands of crockpot, so I'm going to give it a try!
This crock pot would be excellent for keeping gravy warm at a buffet. I'm going to keep it for that. However, if I were buying again I definitely would buy one of the several brands which have a temperature settings. Those models are the same price and offer an additional feature.
Customer Review: perfect for small whole-grain meals ready when you need them Summary: 5 Stars
My husband gets up by 5 am and I... well, I don't! :)
I bought this unit to make hot cereal so I could offer my husband a hot breakfast without having to (painfully) alter my own sleep schedule.
This is a great size for our family of three. I fill it with water and whole grains around 9 pm. My husband takes his breakfast at 5 am and unplugs the unit. When my son and I get up around 6 or 7 am, the cereal has cooled to a perfect temperature to eat right away without exceeding the "maximum 2 hours at room temperature" timeframe for food safety.
I want to eat healthy, but I'm not an accomplished cook. This 1 1/2 qt crockpot, together with the 2 qt model I use for dinner, allows me to cook whole grains and other "real" foods without needing any great skill or time to stand by the stove. I get to play with my son while still offering him old-fashioned home cooked meals.
Customer Review: Mixed feelings. Summary: 2 Stars
I am online buying a crockpot to replace this one. I have been using this for about 6 months, probably less than 10 times total. The lid handle fell off in the dishwasher, so I have to replace it. I do love the size for our small family (2 adults, 3 toddlers/preschoolers) as we do not usually eat leftovers. The size makes the perfect amount. However, as I am shopping for a replacement, I will not be getting this one. Why? Not only did it break with minimal use, but the lack of heat settings makes it less convenient than a crockpot that has a "low" and "keep warm" setting. There were times that I left it in a bit too long and it scorched the food on the edges. This would not have been the case if there were other settings. I was surprised that there are actually other, respectable, brands that have these features, and are actually cheaper. I will be going that route!
Customer Review: Wish it had settings Summary: 4 Stars
I love this little slow cooker and it is my favorite one. I have a six quart (which is way too big for a family of two), a 2 1/5 quart (Which I love for everyday meals) and my favorite, this one. I love this slow cooker because it is a perfect amount for two to three bowls of soup or slow cooked beans of any kind. I love this one especially for tacos or burritos, I slow cook pinto beans with red pepper, onions and garlic, umm hmm. If you love beans or cooking in small amounts, get this one.
Although, I wish it had a high setting but either way I still love it. However if this will be your one and only slow cooker and you have a larger family get one slightly bigger like a 2 or a 2 1/2 slow cooker. I wouldn't get the six quart unless you like lots of leftovers and you have a family of at least 4.
