Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Crock-Pot 5025WG 2.5-Quart Slow CookerCustomer Review: Works great, perfect size Summary: 5 Stars
Bought this in mid-90's & used so much (9 yrs) the knob on the lid broke. Researched till I found the newer version (lid knob is completely redesigned)& promptly bought it! Here's why it's a favorite: 1.) Has a removable insert, so easy to serve/clean. Don't buy one w/a permanent insert, you'd be surprised how hard it is to clean. 2.)Has 3 way heat control: high, low, warm, a feature usually only found on larger, more expensive models, so lot's of cooking control options here allowing you to make all crock pot recipes 3.)the smaller size is perfect for sizing down large recipes, cooking smaller amts or cooking for 2-4 people. I can put in some jarred spaghetti sauce, 25-30 frozen bagged meatballs from Costco, turn on low & come back in 7 hrs. to feed 2-4 people, w/leftovers. I also use this as an extra "oven" for entertaining & holiday side dishes (made sweet potato casserole for Thanksgiving). Have not had any issues w/burning or overcooking. Also used for smaller batches of chili, soup, beef stragnoff, really any recipe sized down to a more managable amt. Have a Rival 6 qt crockpot, but only use this for making big amts of food.
Customer Review: Cut cooking times on recommended recipes in half. Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this small, 2.5 quart crock pot for my college apartment, and am storing a larger one at my parents' house. The larger crock pot of the same brand is extremely useful and has never given me any trouble.
However, this smaller crock pot heats up very quickly, and will usually cook food in half the time the larger crockpot will. Of course this makes sense due to the decreased surface area of ceramic to heat, but I hadn't thought of that, and I wish I had known this before I purchased this product.
When I checked on my first overnight oatmeal in this pot after four hours of cooking (recommended cooking time: 8 hours), all of the liquid was gone. In another hour or two, it would have been burnt. Fortunately, adding more water did the trick and it was able to cook the oatmeal without further incident.
Basically, because of how quickly this pot heats up this is a good product only if you can check on it every three or four hours or so while cooking. Otherwise, purchase a larger model, especially one with a "keep warm" function.
Customer Review: A little annoying Summary: 2 Stars
I would NOT buy this crockpot again. I tend to go for inexpensive stuff. And this is definitely an inexpensive model. But I would pay more for a different model, if I could do it over again.
It has two settings. The lower setting is too high. You can't just let something simmer a long time. It just boils instead.
And it makes a mess. The lid sits down inside a lip that runs around the edge of the stoneware pot, as it should. But the lip is not high enough or something, because after the food starts to boil, liquid comes out a lot, runs down the sides of the pot, and gets all over the counter. And the surface tension of the liquid causes it to adhere to the lip and so it circles around the lip and then actually goes down inside the metal part of the pot. Then the stoneware parts sticks, and the liquid whatever burns and gets stuck to the inside.
And it does not cook evenly. The food on the bottom of one side of the pot often burns and sticks to the pot, even on low setting.
Dissatisfied. I've used it maybe 6 weeks.
Customer Review: Great size, but. . . Summary: 2 Stars
I got this crock pot as an alternative to my larger crock pots, which often result in too many leftovers. The 2.5qt size is perfect for 2 people, and for smaller recipes like Mac N Cheese.
Unfortunately, this crock pot is just too unreliable to use regularly. Even on Low, it cooks much too hot. This can result in burned or overcooked meals. Even worse, it has a hot spot. This means that if it's not stirred frequently during cooking - and thereby defeating most of the purpose of the crock pot - the food will burn and stick to the crock in that particular spot, even those times that the Low setting isn't too hot.
In addition to the cooking problems, there is no "Warm" setting on this crock pot. Both of my larger crock pots have this feature, and while it is uncommon in smaller pots, I really miss it.
I'll be putting this crock pot in the next yard sale and replacing it with the Proctor Silex 3-qt. Slow Cooker.
Customer Review: Good Product Summary: 3 Stars
excellent product. great for one or two person household. only complaints are outside gets very hot and could burn someone if accidently brushed up against it. i keep it away from the wall and anything plastic. i don't know if other brands don't have this problem. i would also like to non stick interior to the crock to make cleaning up easier. you have to remember to spray the inside before using. also remember to put root vegetables such as carrots, onions, potatoes in first then meat then sauce ingredients, since the vegetables take longer to cook. some meats such as chicken are better off cooked at high for 2-1/2 to 3 hours, since they can get dry even with the sauce. over all though i really like this product but i would have bought an oval shaped one, since food fits better in it. i'd like to see the following features, timer, keep warm button, oval shape, heat proof outside, non stick interior, on a small sized unit. i don't think any company is making the smaller size with these features. until they do, this is a very good product.
