I replaced my "American Living" (bad set, that has a real expensive loss story) set of dishes with the Corelle Classic Cafe Red and can't be any more pleased. I had my eye on them at the local Kroger's and other department stores, but wasn't willing to pay the price they were asking, since I already got ripped off through J. C. Penney's. I got to thinking, why not check on craiglists because I had seen where someone in our area (Ohio) had brand new sets really cheap. They had some, but not in the pattern I wanted. So I googled it and up popped the exact pattern I wanted at Amazon.com, only there was a big difference. The price was $5.00 cheaper than at the local department stores. I purchased 4 sets and am using them and I wouldn't trade them for a farm in Texas. I have gone on line and purchased other pieces to complete my set and now have 8 serving bowls and salt & pepper shakers. Recently, I went to an outlet store where it is nothing but corelle and purchased the deeper soup bowls, a serving platter and some other miscellaneous pieces and am still under the total price of my loss from Penney's. These Corelle dishes must be made durable to with stand the roughness from a 30 year old son that moved back home. He thinks he's helping out by loading and unloading the dishwasher, but now I know he is because there are no chips or breakage in my dishes. If something is going to break, he will make it happen, but Corelle stands up to the "test of times". Some of the serving bowls that I purchased through Amazon.com were used inventory, but when I received them and washed them up they were in new condition. This is not a review of this particular pattern, but of Corelleware generally. These are by far the best made dishes I have ever used. I bought my first set 20 years ago, and not a single piece has so much as chipped in all of those years. I have used them every day, frozen them, microwaved them, and moved them over a dozen times. You can drop a plate from waist height on a wood floor and it will not even chip. The plates and bowls are very easy to clean. The bowls stack in the dishwasher, unlike many bowls that are either too broad or too sharply angled to stack more than one in a dishwasher rack. The dishes are made so that they always come out of the dishwasher perfectly dry, because there is no place for moisture to pool.
Considering the very low quality of most consumer products that are available these days, Corelle is an amazing product. The one weakness in the sets are the mugs. The mugs are *not* made of the same material as the dishes, and they are *not* made in Dow-Corning's US plant. They are made in Thailand, and they are of only average quality. After 20 years, all of my mugs fell apart. The handles cracked off, presumably from too may trips to the freezer and the microwave. They are better than the Chinese made cups that are available at nearly all retail stores in the US, but they are not up the normal quality of the US-made dishes.

The dishes look exactly like the picture and the product description was acurate. The dishes are light weight, dishwasher safe, and the color patern is beautiful.
Amazon has a great selection of corell dishes, though I admit, the dishes themselves is not the main focus of this review. I wanted anyone thinking of ordering dishes from Amazon to feel confident in ordering dishes over the internet and recieving them in the mail. My first set of dishes did turn out to be broken, however, I blame the delivery service not Amazon, but in any event Amazon corrected the problem faster than I expected them to. I filled out a SIMPLE form on line and was able to print out a packing lable to send the package back to Amazon through my local post office. The best part is that Amazon sent out my replacement dishes, on over-night service non-the-less for free before I even had a chance to make it to the post office. Extrodinary service!!

Amazon must be listenting to customer reviews about broken Corelle--I purchased the 4-pc place setting set, plus 4 salad plates from a different seller--all arrived in perfect condition, sooner than promised and packed like Ft. Knox.
To those who feel the "salad" plates in the 4-pc. setting are too small, note that these are really bread-and-butter plates. If I could change one thing about Corelle Livingware, I'd substitute salad plates for the smaller b-and-b's in the 4-pc. sets; I actually serve most casual family meals on the salad plates.
These are perfect everyday dishes--attractive, lightweight, durable--and they take just 1/2 the space of my old chipped stoneware in the small cupboards in my '60's rancher. They don't craze or stain like stoneware (most of which is imported from China), and I'll never buy anything else.

corelle, in my opinion, makes the best dishes EVER. Both my grandparents have had their sets for over 30 years, and they still look brand new.
they do PERFECTLY in the microwave, the food gets hot but the plate does not.
they are easy to wash by hand or in the dishwasher.
they stack so nicely as to not take up much space.
they are light weight.
they have many different designs that are simple, yet elegant.
they only con to these dish sets is that they have that tiny saucer plate that is very small. it would be cool if a person could design their own 16-pc set, and get the extra large bowls and the 8 inch plate instead of the small bowls and saucer plates. so dont forget to buy them individually!
