Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Copco 24-Ounce Big Joe Thermal Travel Mug

Customer Review: Great BIG Travel mug
Summary: 4 Stars

I searched and searched for a 24 ounce travel coffee mug to use with a new little coffee machine I purchased to make exactly enough coffee to fill the mug. Of only 4 or 5 large travel mugs I found, I finally decided to buy this one. The first time I used it, I was really disappointment-BUT, read on...I am disabled and, while I can walk, I use a cane, so everything I carry must be carried in my non-cane hand. SO, after filling up this coffee mug, I would place it in the middle of a plastic grocery bag, pull the sides tight and the mug would remain upright inside the bag, allowing me to carry other things in the same hand as the mug. Any spills, which inevitably will happen if I bump my arm or whatever, would be caught in the bag. SO, when I got to work the first day I used it, and blotted off any drips from spills, I noticed that after sitting on my desk for a minute or two, it was leaving a little puddle. I moved it to a piece of paper, and same thing. I was bummed. I went onto Amazon and went through the procedures to return this and request a new one. While waiting for a new one to arrive, I continued to use this one. In doing so, I realized exactly what was happening and that it wasn't a leak. The mug has rubber strips all around the outside, I guess to keep it secure when it is in a cup holder in the car. These rubber strips are not glued to the outside of the mug - they are held on there because they are in slots in the metal outside of the mug. The strips themselves do not seal off the slots in which they are mounted, so any fluids that drip down the sides of the mug invariably go into these slots and then out teeny, tiny drain holes in the bottom. SOOOO, after learning this, I just know to keep my mug on a paper (if I've traveled anywhere with it) for awhile after I sit down, so that any coffee that may have spilled over during travel can drain out the bottom. It is not usually a lot, so eventually, there is no problem with the mug leaving a mark and I can move it around to any place on my desk area without leaving a mark. I have come to love the mug, as it holds as much coffee as a Dunkin Donuts Extra Large cup, which is what I was accustomed to before buying this mug and the little coffee make I now use for my coffee in the morning. I also reviewed my coffee maker, which I love, so if you're interested, look for it under "Black & Decker DCM675BF 5-Cup Drip Coffee Programmable Maker with Permanent Filter."

Customer Review: Pretty decent giant mug
Summary: 4 Stars

The price is right. This would have cost more money at a brick and mortar store.

I bought this because I wanted to drink more coffee. The old 14 oz mug just wasn't doing it for me anymore. I do shift work and work 3 mornings per week, and two evenings. Because of the flip-flopping shifts my sleep schedule sucks so I drink a lot of caffeine to help lift the brain fog. This holds a lot of coffee. I pee much more frequently than I did with the 14 oz mug (I'm sure you care).

My coffee starts off undrinkably hot, cools to warm after about an hour, and after about two hours it's just above room temperature. Depending on how busy I am at work it usually takes about forty-five minutes for me to drink this much liquid.

My only issue is that when I hold the handle and put my thumb on the lid, the lid pops up and flings little droplets of coffee. Not cool. I have to hold it like this because the handle is a little bendy and I feel like the mug needs more support than just the handle.

I dropped it the other day and it didn't break which is excellent because I drop just about everything so my stuff needs to be fairly sturdy.

Customer Review: Great Large Sized Travel Mug
Summary: 4 Stars

I've been using this mug for a couple of years now to/from work and have been very satisfied. I have a 1hr commute each way so the 24oz size is perfect for my morning Joe fix. It has a very simple design. The top has a small open hole that does not completely close (as some other reviews have noted) however I find this to be an advantage as it's much easier to keep clean (versus having old nasty coffee building up under sliding covers) and you can basically lift and drink. It also has a very comfortable "sipping" surface since there is no "slider" in the way. The top pushes on and has a rubber seal to prevent leaks, versus a screw on top, but again it's much easier to clean and I've never had the top fall off by accident. More importantly, the rubber seal prevents coffee from dripping down your shirt unlike other screw on lids tend to do. The mug also does not collect dishwasher water in the seams as I've seen occur in other more intricate designs. Good size, inexpensive, simple, functional, hardy and easy to clean. what more do you want in a travel mug?

Customer Review: Seal around lid LEAKS ...
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased this to take on an extended road trip, so I could make coffee at the hotel each morning and carry it with me on the road.

I don't have a problem with the plastic interior; I don't have a problem with the open sip opening. It fits my cup holder perfectly. From outward appearances, this is exactly what I wanted.

However, the rubber seal around the lid LEAKS. The lid isn't a screw-type lid; instead you just push it into the mug, and it uses a rubbery "gasket" to form a seal. The seal doesn't seal completely, so I end up with a dribble of liquid every time I try to drink from it. I've tried everything: making sure both lid and mug are dry before inserting the lid, not filling the mug too full, etc. Nothing seems to help it to seal completely.

Since no one else has reported this problem, I have to assume I got a "dud." I'll be returning this to Amazon upon my return.

Customer Review: I guess I just don't like plastic mugs
Summary: 2 Stars

I had a stainless mug and it really kept the coffee hot for a long time, several hours. This mug is much lighter, being that it's plastic. It feel cheap and doesn't keep the coffee hot at all, maybe an hour. If you just want something to grab for coffee on the way to work, I guess it's OK. It fits in a standard cup holder and it's easy to drink from. It's not spill proof but it doesn't splash either. Because it has a metal exterior you can't microwave it, so you need to drink your coffee within about an hour or drink it cold. The fully metal mug I have doesn't fit into a cup holder, it's got a wide bottom. I was looking for this shape and the qualities of the steal mug.
After several months of trying to use this mug I finally threw it out. I was drinking hot tea and the plastic smell and taste was so strong it scared me, so out it went. I'm sticking to stainless in and out.
