Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Coopers Brewery DIY Beer KitCustomer Review: A Pleasant Suprise Summary: 5 Stars
I received the Coopers Micro Brewery Kit as a gift for Christmas but didn't really touch it until the end of January. The brewing is simplicity itself, just heat water, open some cans and mix. As it was my first attempt, I tried the beer too soon (only letting it age for 10 days) and wasn't really impressed. Last night I tried it again and was amazed what another two weeks of aging can do for this beer. Not overly fizzy, nice malt taste, slight bitter/hop finish and a beautiful color. There's a small amount of sediment in the bottom of the bottle, so Coopers recommends decanting to a glass. This is a good thing, because it really changes the taste of the beer (seems to lose some of the yeasty characteristics) and lets you enjoy the color. I have the Coopers Heritage Lager aging in the closet and am counting down the days.
Customer Review: Good beer and good times Summary: 5 Stars
I was a little nervous at my first attempt making home brew. I couldn't believe how easy it was. The directions in the instruction manual were simple enough, but with the video that comes with the kit, it can't get any easier. (I do recommend watching the video before getting started, it visually reinforces what the instruction manual has to say). My girlfriend was with me watching the process go down. I think I was in the kitchen for a little over an hour - mostly prepping, cleaning and sanitizing. (Incredibly important). About a month later I'm sharing my homebrew with my friends to their delight. This micro brewery system rocks, and is a great introduction to home brewing. 5 stars all the way, you have my recommendation!
Oh yeah, I just ordered the Wheat beer kit. Can't wait! Cheers!
Customer Review: Worked a treat - beer is totally delicious! Summary: 4 Stars
This kit works a treat. I am still drinking the beer from my first batch and now shopping for supplies for more of the same. It's better than commercial brews and very satisfying. The only problem with my kit was that the airlock didn't seal due to an extra ridge of plastic from the manufacturing. However the CO2 from the fermentation prevented any outside air getting in. My one wish: glass bottles with caps, instead of plastic bottles! But hey, it's all about the beer and the beer itself is exquisite, like a sweetish pale ale with a thick, creamy head and a slight yeasty aroma. Goes down SO EASY! Oh yes, if Australian means Foster's to you, don't expect that this compares. Although both are lagers and I was always a Foster's fan, the Cooper's Lager has more body and is more flavorful.
Customer Review: Easy introduction to the homebrew world Summary: 5 Stars
I received this product for Christmas 2006 from my wife and have just completed my second batch of beer. Cooper's homebrew kit makes it so easy to get into the addictive world of homebrewing beer. In just three easy steps you are off and running and within six weeks (you really do want the beer to have this much secondary fermentation in the bottle) you have TONS of great tasting beer. I can't say enough about how much fun it is to make and how much anticipation builds up to try your new beer - just like Christmas all over again.
Only negative with the product is that you produce 5 gallons of beer - if you can consider that much beer a negative (unfortunately it takes a long time to drink 5 gallons and start brewing your next batch).
Customer Review: Very good and easy Summary: 4 Stars
The brewery kit is complete and easy to use for a beginner. The instructions are not complicated and the beer came out tasting very good. One suggestion: Another thermometer should be included. The first part of the fermentation takes place in the supplied vat and they include a stick-on thermometer so you can make sure the temerature stays in the correct range. The second part of fermentation takes place in the supplied bottles. They instruct you to keep the bottles within a certain temperature range for a week, but they don't give you any way to measure the temperature. Since it is cold in my house I had to put them on a heating pad set to low, and I bought some stick-on thermometers at an aquarium store so I could manage the temperature.
