Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Coopers Brewery DIY Beer KitCustomer Review: Great introduction to homebrew Summary: 5 Stars
I got this kit for Christmas in 2008 and have made about 5 or 6 batches of beer since, with never a failed batch.
The equipment is top-notch. The fermenter is made of sturdy food-grade plastic; it's easy to clean and sanitize if you follow the instructions, and is made to last. The seals work well and the kit comes with a decent air lock. The bottles are sturdy as well, and use the same standard size screw-on caps as in the U.S. Bottling can be a bit messy (there's always a little dripping from the bottler in between bottles) but putting a tray underneath while bottling solves that. The kit also comes with a decent hydrometer so you can measure alcohol content and watch the fermentation progress.
So far I've stuck with the Cooper's pre-made worts, and they've been great. If you buy them at a local store, make sure to check the bottom for the use-by date (the yeast can go bad) and make sure you realize that the printed date uses the Australian format (e.g. day.month.year, not month/day/year). I've never been sent an outdated can when ordering from Amazon.
Customer Review: Easy to use, tasty beer! Summary: 5 Stars
I just made my first batch of lager beer at home, and it was a complete success due to the excellent quality of this kit. The instructions are easy to understand, and the kit includes everything you need, including bottles and lids. If you need help, there is an 800 number to call. The beer itself tastes as good as any draft or bottled beer, if not better.
The only problem I had this this kit was keeping the temperature high enough for fermentation. We keep our house cool in the winter, and the beer requires a temperature of around 75F. I solved the problem by setting up a goose necked desk lamp next to the barrel, and then the beer really started fermenting.
I recommend this kit to anyone who wants to try brewing beer at home. The original cost of the kit seems high, but over time it will pay for itself, and the parts won't wear out.
Coopers sells the ingredients for many types of beer, which can all be made with the barrel and bottles from this starter kit. Next on my list is to try making an IPA (India Pale Ale).
Customer Review: Howbrewing Beer Kit Summary: 4 Stars
This kit was the my first attempt to brew my own beer at home. I did a lot of research on home brewing in general and ended up ordering this kit.
This kit is complete and comes with everything you need to get started including a operations manual and DVD that is very helpful. First thing I noticed was that the "Wort" or fermentation barrel was not drilled to accept the spigot and rather than send it back or call Coopers I decided to drill it myself and save the headache of dealing with customer service.
After that everything went well and I was pleased with the quality of the product. The information provided was very well done although I have found that there is a lot more to home brewing than just adding products provided and having a great beer a couple weeks later.
I would recommend this to anyone that is thinking about home brewing even though my first brew didn't turn out. It's an excellent way to get started and I have enjoyed the experience and the beer ever since.
Customer Review: home brewing, no fuss, no muss Summary: 5 Stars
I live in a small home and can't brew beer with a big pot and all the other assorted equipment and buckets that goes along with it. I've used mr. beer and have great results with it.
when I saw the cooper's malt extract on the shelf at my home brewers supply store
I began an in investigation and found the cooper's micro brewery kit here at amazon
I find this to be like mr. beer on steroids and so easy just one keg, no measuring of sugar, just sterlize everything first, boil your water, add your beer mix, add the yeast, screw on the lid, and let ferment for at least 7-10 days.
the kit even coms with bottles.
this is not "toy" beer maling this is real beer making
made by your own hands.

Customer Review: Graet Entry into Home Brew Summary: 5 Stars
I have to say, this kit opened a whole new hobby for me. Very easy to create your own beer with Coopers. The kit includes everything you need to make your first batch of homebrew. The only advice I would give is to watch the video first. It explains the process a little better than the printed instructions. Maybe not better, but at least you will have seen the process before you read and start mixing. As I have moved on to a more complex method of brewing, I did learn that home brewed beer is fun to make and very, very good. Everyone that tasted this first batch, loved it. I am actually going to come back to order a Cervesa for an every day beer. Although I have moved on to grain and partial mash beers, I am sure that the other flavors of Cooper's beers will keep the beginner very satisfied for quite some time. You can't go wrong with this. I might suggest the book, "How to Brew" by John Palmer to go along with this. Although not needed, it certainly makes understanding the process easier.
