Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Coopers Brewery DIY Beer KitCustomer Review: Beer Is Life! Summary: 5 Stars
I am extremely pleased with the kit and positively delighted with my first brew.
Aside from some initial yet fleeting dissapointment that the Paul Mercurio instruction video was not NTSC compatible ( it is an aussie import afterall and the detailed instruction booklet featured Paul pics ) I was like a kid on Christmas morning.
I began the process only to discover that my yeast sachet was missing so I had to abandon the mission temporarily. Fortunately the customer support number put me directly in touch with an extremely pleasant and helpful person who had the yeast posted out ASAP and I received it 2 days later. This was followed up by a pleasant e-mail.
I followed directions to the T and after only 15 days of secondary bottle fermentation I cracked open a suprisingly crisp tasty brewski with a good color and head, knowing it would only get better with time ( and it is ).
I am about to brew another batch and am very happy with the wide selection of
Coopers ingredient kits that are available ( to cover most Beer worshippers varied tastes) at very reasonable prices too.
I can highly reccomend this item and the 'Nectar Of The Gods' it produces.
Thankyou Coopers for offering this super fun and easy kit.
Customer Review: Everything You Need to Make Decent Beer Summary: 5 Stars
Bought my kit off of eBay. This is my first home brewing kit. First thing I will say is that Coopers is a stand up company with excellent customer service. I had a very minor problem with my kit and they resolved it immediately with no questions asked.
The kit itself comes with everything you need to make decent beer and its highly reusable. You can use it to brew other Coopers kits or other Extract brew kits. I brewed the included Coopers Lager per the instructions using Dextrose and at two weeks after bottling it came out great, knock on wood. Its a very clean and crisp ale with a hint of the signature Coopers taste to it. The beer produced tastes very fresh almost as if it was poured directly from a tap.
Before viewing the included DVD I would recommend going to these videos for an overview: [...].
I am a busy professional and I don't have the time or space to get involved in all grain brewing. I would highly recomend this kit to anyone who is just getting into home brewing. Would also recommend a decent no rinse sanitizer as bleach is a pain to use. I use Star San. Also don't worry if your beer doesn't taste great prior to bottling. The bottle aging will mellow out your beer.
Customer Review: So easy a wine drinker could do it! Summary: 5 Stars
(Just kidding. I enjoy wine, too. Variety is the spice of life, right?) I've never brewed before, but have wanted to try it for some time. This kit was a great introduction to the practice: It was fun to use and the resulting beer is very tasty. There is also a lot of it. One batch produces around thirty 25-ounce bottles. That works out to just over two and one half cases (of 24 12-oz bottles). Hard-core suds guys might pooh-pooh this kit approach. It is sort of like making a cake from a box instead of from scratch. Still, if you follow the directions faithfully, the results are plenty satisfying. Once I get a few batches under my belt, I may "step up" to more complicated methods and different recipes. Coopers did a nice job putting this kit together. If you don't want to wait until you've consumed all 30 bottles to brew another batch, you'll need to order another set of PET bottles. Oh. Make sure you have a place to set the fermentation vessel for the 4 - 7 days it needs to sit at a stable temperature between 21 and 24 degrees Celius. It is also heavy once it is filled with 23 liters of water, so take that into account when planning on where you will fill it, let it ferment, and then do your bottling.
Customer Review: better home brewing Summary: 5 Stars
I have been brewing beer for some time now i can say that the coopers kits are up with the best on the market. The one mistake people make with home brew though is not knowing how to use the kit properly, meaning just using basic kits does'nt cut it if you really love your beer and by kits i mean the actual brewing cans that you would buy from your home brew shop. If you are a brewer and would like to brew really fantastic premium beers then you need help from proffesionals who really know what they are doing. I bought a book recently from my local brew shop called Brewing crafts by Mike Rodgers-Wilson and its the best thing i have ever done, it tells you step by step how to make your own fantastic beers at home from the ingredients needed to the process itself and has some really great tips that the average joe would never think of. I am writing this review because i have read negative reviews on this kit and i can tell you from experience that the kit is great and the problem is only the fact that you are not using the right ingredient combinations to create your beer. Try some of the recipes from this book and others like it and trust me you will be pleasantly surprised!!!!!
Customer Review: Very good beginners kit Summary: 5 Stars
I got this as a Christmas present, and have been using it since then for a number of brews. I think this is a very good entry product into homebrewing. It is well priced and gives you a good kit to start brewing beers with.
Good points
- fermenter is very large and you can brew 5 US gallon batches with lots of head room, which is very important when you have a highly active fermentation. This reduces the chances of blow off which is very messy.
- fermenter lid allows some visual indications of fermentation and is easier to handle than a glass carboy.
- comes with a hydrometer which is critical for seeing when your fermentation has ended.
- the PET bottles are easy and safe to use.
Bad Points
- lid does require a very tight fit. You really need to crank it until it won't move anymore. This does make it hard to remove afterwards.
- the Coopers instructions set you up to fail. They tell you that its ok to brew within 22-27C which is far too high. You want to aim for 18-22C ideally.
Overall this is an excellent kit that I highly recommend to any budding homebrewers.
