It's ever so slightly harder to set than one of the old turn timers, but hardly. You want to set it to five minutes? Just push the minute button 5 times and press start. (Although, if you need to set it for an hour, it will take a bit longer. It could really do with another button for setting ten minute increments.)
I was a little worried that it would be like programming an alarm clock. (Not that I find that terribly difficult, but that's just too involved for timing my stupid fish stick dinner.)
The ring is as loud as my old turn timer, and seems like it will go off until you press stop. (Not sure how long the ring lasts. I tested it and got bored after about 30 seconds.)
I also like that it's magnetic, so I can stick it on my fridge and never again find myself wandering around my apartment muttering "Where did I leave that $*%@?ing timer?"
Edit 2/15/10; I dropped it on the floor the other day, and now it doesn't work at all. I guess it's a bit delicate, just FYI.
