Customer Review: Finally the Right Size!

I have used the 16 ounce Contigo mugs everyday for the past year for my daily latte that I make at home and then drink on my 50 mile bus/rail/bicycle commute and then through the morning when I get to work. Everyday I would get to the bottom of the mug and wish I had just a little bit more coffee. If only they made a Contigo mug with 20 ounces! Well here it is and I'm finally drinking that slightly larger latte out this great stainless steel mug.
First of all Contigo mugs are the absolute best. I make my coffee at 5:30 AM and it's still hot at 10 or 11 AM when I finish it. At home on the weekends my wife has me make her coffee in these mugs even though we are sitting around the house because she drinks it slowly and likes her coffee very hot and this mug keeps it burn-your-mouth-hot for at least an hour or two (it does lose heat through the plastic lid though very slowly).
The stainless steel body is flawless. I like that it's not lined with plastics that can leech into whatever you are drinking and that it's not aluminum which I have read is possibly reactive with your beverages. It's hard to go wrong with food grade stainless steel and the double walled construction on these mugs is an engineering feat.
The plastic lid is the only weak point on these mugs though the newer lids are improved over the originals which had a strong plastic odor which wouldn't go away no matter how many times you washed them. One of my original lids started leaking through the autoseal after a year which was really just a drip when the mug would happen to fall sideways in my backpack which wasn't often. I did order a couple of new lids from the manufacturers website which were the exact same grey lids as this new mug shipped with. So far these new lids are perfect - no noticeable odor - they perfectly seal the mug and are interchangeable between the 16 ounce and 20 ounce versions. If anything is going to fail on these it's the lid but I don't really fault them for that as it's a fairly complicated mechanism made necessarily out of plastic and I'm happy you can now get replacement lids.
So far I really like this new mug. It stands 9 inches tall with the lid screwed on with the profile the same as the smaller mugs. Even though it's quite a bit taller since it's not wider it should fit any cup holder. I prefer the clean stainless steel look over the painted mugs because in my usage even though the painted mugs were done very well mine have chipped and scratched a bit over time and the plain stainless should not have that problem. I have yet to see a better mug on the market and they made it even better with the added volume. After testing it out this morning I'm now ordering a second mug.
