Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Contigo AUTOSEAL Stainless Steel Vacuum Insulated Tumbler, 16 Ounces, Silver

Customer Review: Good Quality Mug
Summary: 5 Stars

There are some very good features of this travel mug that absolutely beat out other products. Firstly, the spill-proof lid really works, and even holding the mug upside down does not lead to spills. With that being said, however, I've found that extensive shaking (just to try it out) led to a few stray drops of liquid espaping from the lid. Additionally, the size of the mug fits a good amount of drink without compensating for style or function. I have only used this mug for hot tea, and have found it to be extremly difficult to drink for about 10-15 minutes. This product definately holds its claim that it keeps hot liquids hot for hours. I did not ezperience any strange metallic taste either. Although I have never carried it around in a bag to see if the button releases any liquid, I believe this mug will be useful for carrying around campus as a college student. Perfection is very rare, and if this mug was microwave safe, it would have been at the very top. However, I have never found a better travel mug for the price.

Customer Review: Best mug I've ever had
Summary: 5 Stars

I use my Contigo travel mug as my primary coffee cup/holder. It is just so darn handy. I use it during the day at home so that I can have hot coffee for extended periods. It doesn't spill so drinking by the computer is no longer a risk.

In the afternoon I take my mug and a thermos to work and continue to use it another 6 hours. I flinched when I bought the cup 6 months ago but it has turned out to be a wise purchase which I use 7 days a week.

Full of coffee, if you drop it, there is a better chance that what it lands on will be damaged more than the cup.

Regardless of price I'll replace this one with another in a flash when this one wears out.

Cleaning: rinse out daily and put lid through dishwasher at least several times a week. If no dishwasher place lid in sink of hot water and soak overnight. Then when you remove it spend a minute or two "shaking" it under the water. This will loosen/remove any coffee/cream deposits that have accumlated since the last washing.

Customer Review: Best travel mug I've used
Summary: 5 Stars

After buying several plastic insulated travel mugs from Starbucks, I was looking for something better. The best thing the Starbucks travel mugs had going for them is that they did not leak, unless you screw the top on too tight; then the rubber gasket comes loose from the lid and it leaks around the gasket. Another reviewer here had mentioned that the Contigo mug she had did not keep hot for the 4 hours indicated. Did a bit more research, including finding both models at a local retailer. The plastic/foam insulated are only rated for 1 hour. The stainless steel/vacuum model is rated for 4 hours and I'm finding that it is indeed keeping water and coffee hot for 4 hours. They're both leakproof, but another big advantage to the stainless steel for me is that it doesn't absorbe taste or odors like the plastic will. I have smallish hands with weak grip strength and the push button mechanism for drinking is not difficult for my hand at all. Will be purchasing another to keep in my suitcase. It's the perfect travel mug.

Customer Review: Best Coffee Mug ever!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased two of these in a pack, which seems unavailable now, for my wife. Sorry to her, because I stole one of them for my use. These are the best mugs I have ever had. Three things I love about them:
1. Throw them in the dishwasher! - it works great (and smell fine)
2. Does not spill or drip
3. Keeps coffee hot (not warm) for hours

The only unfortunate thing is that she lost hers after 3 months. The more unfortunate thing is that I just lost mine after two years! Now I am back buying more. We generally use 5 or 6 mugs in a rotation, 4 of them are OXO, which are nice because the push button ones wont spill, but the coffee gets cold and you have to hand wash them.

A typical day for me is pour coffee in the mug @ 7. Drink that one and refill around 9. Then I drink that one until 11 or so. The coffee stays hot all morning. During the rare time that I leave it at my desk and come back after lunch...the coffee is still hot @ 1pm. Just awesome!

Customer Review: Leaks from top of lid above drink hole!
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased this about a year ago and use it strictly for packing milk for my son's lunch. It works really well in keeping his milk cold 8 hours long, since he rarely finishes the entire container, but I do put re-usable ice packs in his lunch box. My problem with it is that more and more, I find that it will leak from the very top of the lid, above the spout, where there is apparently a thin hole under what looks like a decorative square element, soaking whatever is in his lunchbox. Occasionally, milk will even come out of this area when my son is drinking from it.

It is also hard to keep clean, but I happen to have a mini bottle brush (pipe cleaner size) which works very well, but I still leave the top off to dry completely before filling the mug; otherwise, I also get the disgusting sour smell. I won't purchase this again because of the leaking and difficulty in cleaning, but I don't know what else I can use for his lunches then... back to the internet searches, I guess...
