Customer Review: Best Travel Mug I've Ever Used

This is the best travel mug. I have had two for 4 months.
It does not leak when knocked over. It is easy to use one handed - drink with the push of a button. It keeps hot liquid HOT for 4 hours (more if you pre-heat the mug) and will keep cold liquids cold for 12 or more hours. I left iced tea in the mug overnight once. The next morning there was still ice in the container.
The container does allow coffee to leave a film on the lid. Using the sprayer on my sink cleared the gunk out. Now I shake water in the container daily when finished with my coffee, use it for water or tea in the afternoon, and wash it with a regular dish brush and the sink sprayer every morning - 2 minutes tops. An aside: I only wash the container strictly in the morning to get the steel hot so my coffee does not cool a little on contact. Since starting this regimen two months ago, I have not had gunk buildup. Problem solved.
This may seem like effort; but for a container that keeps my coffee enjoyably hot all morning, that I use all day, has not covered my paperwork in liquids when knocked over, and that I would wash daily anyway... I am more than satisfied.

Overall, this is a great product, from a great company, with awesome costumer service. If it wasn't made in China which explains the occasional quality problems I've had, I probably would have given it five stars.
I originally bought this product in Summer 2007, at Target. The one I got was defective, in that the O-ring got stretched out in the first couple weeks. I contacted the company and they immediately sent me a whole replacement. This replacement worked great, and still does, most of the time.
The only problem that I've been having is that it will occasionally leak between the top and the body. On the rare occasion that this happens, it is a big mess, even worse than a regular mug would be.
Despite this quality issue, which I don't think is widespread problem, the mug works great most of the time. It does a great job keeping the coffee hot, is easy to clean, and seems very durable.
I would highly recommend this mug, and other similar ones from the same company. I would also suggest to Contigo that they work on their production quality and move the manufacturing of this product to this country.

unlike other reviews, I haven't noticed the foul smells of old coffee and germs from the lids inherit design. That said, everyday when I am done using it I run warm water though the lid while holding the sip button.
other thoughts: its ergonomic, fits right in my hand like it was made for me...I beg to differ as some state that it retains so much heat that initial sips scorch their mouths...I fill mine tumbler up at around 7am with drip coffee go to class and the temperature decreases hour by hour until about 11:00am the coffee is less than luke-warm but not quite cold (I don't know if thats normal or not?).
This tumbler is completely leak proof in normal day to day activity from my observations and its a big plus that its liner is stainless steel (cheaper tumblers are usually lined with some type of composite)
I would have rated this tumbler one more star if I could get a guaranteed 6 hours of med-hot coffee retention from it...but other than that its excellent for a college student such as myself...but on the other-hand I'm not totally sure I would want coffee that has been sitting for 6 hours?

As an avid tea drinker, I have one cup of black tea every morning. In the past, I had always just used disposable cups for this. But, these couldn't keep my tea warm, and often spilled and caused a mess.
Then I found the Contigo. This is by far the best mug I have ever used. It keeps my tea warm for hours and never leaks. That was the one thing I was worried about, the mug leaking, but after using it, you fiqure out that it is basically impossible for anything to leak out. You can shake the mug upside down, and not a drop will spill. The button is easy to press, and drinking your tea or coffee seems natural.
Regarding the complaints, I have dropped my contigo a few times with only minor damage as a result. Also, cleaning the mug and cap is as easy as throwing them in the top rack of the dishwasher. I don't notice any taste difference, and as long as you always put the same drink in the mug, there really shouldn't be a taste difference.
I would highly recommend this mug to anyone who drinks tea or coffee, and now that I own one, I really couldn't imagine drinking my tea any other way.

The perfect mug. Things I was looking for
1) Aluminum interior (i.e., no leeching plastics)
2) Large mouth for cleaning
3) No spill
I've had other mugs with #1 and #2, but they always spilled somewhat. I didn't realize how much engineering it would take to make a no-spill container, but this is it. It's great engineering, absolutely no spills. Some unexpected benefits:
1) The drinking "lip" is amazing. Well, I think it is. It's like kissing the corner of the mug, rather than waiting for hot liquid to unexpected come.
2) Great for drinking on a sofa! I find that most of the time, I don't bother standing up the cup. Finally, I can drink while lying down on the carpet, sitting in the middle of the sofa, sitting out on the lawn. The only problem might be that the "lip" might get dirty, if you set it down wrong.
3) It's a great thing to play with while walking around, in terms of spinning it around in the air and such.
As you can tell, I'm in love with this mug (after about a week). I'll probably buy a few more come Christmastime.
