Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Contigo AUTOSEAL Stainless Steel Vacuum Insulated Tumbler, 16 Ounces, SilverCustomer Review: Great item, with ONE MAJOR CAVEAT!! Summary: 1 Stars
This is a great mug. Good seal, great heat retention, fantastic no spill system, feels good holding, not bulky, yet holds a lot inside. However, there is one major problem. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO CLEAN THE INSIDE OF THE SEAL SYSTEM. I don't review products here in Amazon. I took the time to write this review because this mug has a HUGE DESIGN FLAW, one that will anger you every time you clean/use this mug.
There is a flap inside the sealing mechanism that is impossible to reach. I have tried brushes, high water pressure, dishwasher, and this thing will not stay clean. The sealing system is great and does its job, BUT as a person who likes coffee with MILK in it, being able to completely clean all crevices is a must. When I have used this mug after a throughout cleaning, I will notice that my coffee will start going bad around midday. This does not happen with other mugs, and this fancier mug will continue to sit at the back of the cabinet unless it is a last resort.
Its a shame, since it is a great product, but with one MAJOR FLAW. I would never recommend this product, even if you like your coffee black, no sugar. You wouldn't eat with poorly washed utensils, why drink coffee out of a mug that you cant get 100% clean?
Customer Review: Ingenious design, right price Summary: 5 Stars
The Contigo insulated tumbler mug really is spill-proof as advertised. Liquids do not leak, and having to push a button before sipping means there is a nearly zero chance of spillage upon an accidental drop. Moreover, it does insulate hot and cold liquids for several hours.
What attracted me to this mug in the first place, however, was its stylish look. The stainless steel, futuristic curvature and edges, and the cool press-to-sip button all add up to a cup of the future look! The mechanism inside the lid is very stable (and ingenious), although it does take a few minutes of washing to get rid of the factory plastic smell (note that it is BPA free though). The stainless-steel version (which I purchased) is dishwasher-safe. The lids for all versions are also dishwasher-safe. I've seen this mug at local stores, but Amazon had a much better price -- including free 2-day shipping for students!

Overall, this mug is a great buy. I would highly recommend it, whether you want it for use in your car, backpacking trips, school or around the house. This is my new favorite mug.

Customer Review: I am definitely a fan of these mugs! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought a couple of these mugs to take coffee and other hot drinks to work, and I love them. They keep coffee hot for at least four hours, I love the fact that they're one-handed (hold down the button with your thumb and drink), and they seal really well. I've even (accidentally) dropped one on our concrete driveway, and no leaks! You can turn them upside down, and no drips, other than what might be on the outside of the mug.
I love how they automatically seal closed when you release the button. These were great for my job, because I worked in a lab where we couldn't have open drink containers. They're also great if you're clumsy like me and are constantly tipping things over!
I have had no trouble with cleaning these. The plain stainless-steel ones are dishwasher safe, and all of the lids can go in the dishwasher. The ONLY time a mug ever developed a smell was when I'd misplace a dirty one and find it a good while later... Soaking it with baking soda mixed in water overnight took care of the problem.
These are also great for keeping ice water cold in the summer. I am always impressed with how good of a job this does at keeping drinks hot or cold.
Customer Review: love Love LOVE this tumbler!! Summary: 5 Stars
Purchases two of these tumblers after seeing on one of those TV shopping channels and not wanting to pay their rediculous price and S&H charges!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this tumbler!! I filled it with ice and water and took to the beach when it was 100+ and the ice was still in it about 3 hrs later! The only downfall is if you want to heat up the contents, you have to put in a separate cup to microwave since it is stainless steel... But that is no problem for me!! I have looked for a tumbler like this for years.... One that was double walled, sealed and you couldn't spill! I hate the ones that have the opening on the top that you have to spin or touch each time you want to drink and then close when you are finished.... not only would I forget sometimes (either to open or close it), but I don't want to touch my cup top where I am drinking from... You never know what germs you have on your hands!
I would HIGHLY recommend this product, it is what it says it is... I did NOT have an issue with the contents causing black stuff to form/grow/accumulate under the lid and in the lid assembly, but then again I put mine in the dishwasher after every use (that's why I got 2!)... BUY IT!
Customer Review: Best travel mug currently in existence, but not perfect. Summary: 5 Stars
Me: Average thirty-something male computer geek coffee drinker (black: no cream or sugar) who actually enjoys the taste of well prepared coffee.
My Quest: Find a coffee cup that has as little plastic in it as possible (dislike plastic taste) that is dishwasher safe (I am lazy).
This Mug:
I searched long and hard and at the moment this is the best mug I could find to meet my needs.
Pros:
* Dishwasher safe (although it seems to leave a coffee 'film' which can be removed with a simple wipe if I'm feeling up to it).
* Spill-proof! (this wasn't really one of my requirements but I'm still amazed: After several months of usage (abuse) no leaks!)
* Mostly metal (at least the coffee isn't 'stewing' in plastic).
Cons:
* The plastic of the lid is 'tasteable'. Not horribly bad but it is there if you search for it especially at the begining of the cup.
Summary:
Best mug out there at this point in time.
Some day somebody will create a lid that isn't plastic (or a coating for the plastic to seal it from the contents). Alas that time is not the present.
