As anyone who works with polymer clay will tell you, a good clay rolling machine is a must. It makes the basic tasks quick and easy. It can be the launching point for great beads and clay artifacts. Unfortunately, this clay roller is not quite up to the task due to a couple of design flaws: the handle falls out because the shank that fits into the machine is too short and the dial for the thickness of the clay is very stiff.
When I purchased this machine, I already owned an Atlas pasta machine from Italy. I had purchased it more than 20 years ago and decided to dedicate it to my polymer clay crafting. It works very well and is a sturdy machine. My only complaint was that it had a spaghetti and fettucini press welded to it making it a sizeable machine. I wanted a clay roller that was a little smaller. That is why I decided to buy this clay rolling machine.
I was happy with its size, but not the engineering. The cranking is fine, but the crank falls out regularly and that can be frustrating. As I mentioned earlier, the dial for changing the thickness of the clay is very stiff and can be difficult to change. The plus is that it has a few more thickness sizes than my pasta machine.
All told, if I had known about the problems with this machine, I would not have purchased it. Instead, I will put it aside and use my "old" Atlas pasta machine until something better comes along. For others who only have this deficient machine, I am sure they can make do. Picking up the handle is great exercise...it will help flatten the abdomen...and while you are down there under your table you can collect any dust bunnies that may have accumulated.
