Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Circulon 5.5-Quart Nonstick Dutch Oven

Customer Review: Very nice Dutch oven
Summary: 4 Stars

In case you've tried to replace your Dutch oven for your set, you'll know that they're horrifically hard to find by themselves (not in a set) and if you do, they cost about 8 million. This pan was around thirty dollars online at boscovs and is well worth the price. My Tfal Dutch oven finally died after 13.5 years of constant use, loved, loved, loved that pan and I'm horrifically disappointed it's gone. When the teflon starts to peel however, well, it's the old trashcan for sure! I found this one online in my numerous hours of searching and was almost going to buy another set of Tfal before I found this pan. It's been great - lightweight, very easy to clean, and has done a wonderful job on everything I've put in it. I couldn't be happier, except if it came in colors, purple to be specific. The cooking is very even, no hot spots, and it's perfect for soups. Highly, highly recommend!

Customer Review: My first dutch oven - works well, but has chipped; wrong picture in product description!
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought this on 2/17/2007 for $20 and it actually has a domed stainless steel lid and right-angled metal handles, not the glass lid or angled handles as shown in the current picture. So far, I've used it to roast pork and chicken and both times, the dishes turned out well. I've not used it very often since I bought it, but now it has a 2mm round chip on the inside near a handle - you can actually see the inner layer. I don't know how that happened as I take good care of my pots and pans, and have only used wooden or nylon utensils in it, and handwashed it. I've boiled water in it (Cincinnati has bad-tasting water and boiling and filtering seems to work) as far as I can remember, I've only used it in the oven twice, and to cook something soupy on the gas stove top maybe 3 times. The chip has started to rust, so it'll probably go in the trash real soon.

Customer Review: Cheap and Useful
Summary: 4 Stars

This is no Le Crueset, ok? If you're looking for that, get one, but if you want a cheap alternative, this is it!

It the best non-stick ever; I cooked sausage spaghetti sauce in it, burned it thoroughly and let my kid clean up after dinner... she forgot to rinse it out (so it sat overnight in the sink).

In the morning, sure my new pot was ruined, I used the sink sprayer and...

The stuff just kind of fell off.

AWESOME!!

I wouldn't use this for fine french cooking, sure, but for a good-size soup/sauce/dutch-oven-dessert pot? Absolutely.

I took away one star because the packaging had a big "our gift to you" sticker - this was, at some point, a large stock of gift with purchase items, and they're now selling them cheap, but whatever. 20 bucks!

Customer Review: Reasonable price for a nice dutch oven.
Summary: 4 Stars

Have had many dutch ovens over the years. This dutch oven heats up fast and seems to distribute the heat fairly evenly; it REALLY isn't necessary to use a very high heat (and not recommended, either). Comes clean easily; like the glass lid and being able to see inside; weight and size make it easy to handle; like that it can go in the oven; only wish side handles didn't get so hot when cooking on stovetop. Haven't had any problem with staining of outside (some others complained about it in reviews), but I have been washing and drying it by hand, which I really don't mind. With most good cookware, it is not recommended that you put it in the dishwasher anyway, and a dutch oven takes up so much space in the dishwasher, it just makes more sense to me to just wash it and get it put away.

Customer Review: Perfect Dutch Oven for Chili
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm sure this pan is great for lots of other things, but I basically bought it to make chili, and it's perfect for that. I use about 2 lbs. of meat, a big can of tomato juice, a couple cans of beans, a bag of diced green peppers and a bag of diced onions, generally, plus spices of course. If you are making chili, or anything else for that matter, of roughly that size, this is a great pan. The non-stick works very well so clean up is very quick. I don't remember what I paid, but it was on sale at the time.

I also recently purchased the 4 quart covered Circulon pan for making Hamburger Helper and such, as this Dutch Oven was just too big for that.
