Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Circulon 5.5-Quart Nonstick Dutch Oven

Customer Review: Peculiar odor and ...rust...?
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this in 2007 for 20 dollars. The pot was a 'free gift' with purchase. I presume it is made in the same quality as the reset of the set. However, I am glad I didn't drop a load of money for the rest of the set. It was OK at first but after a year and a half, it started getting funky. Now, it's time for me to throw this out.

The bottom of the pan looks like it's scratched and red, like rust, even when I cleaned the pan out after cooking something that was not red. I only use plastic and wooden utensils with the pan, as one should with non-stick pans. What is the red stuff? It almost completely covers the bottom of the pan.

The odor after cleaning with soapy, sudsy water is just odd, almost sour. I thought it at first I didn't get all the soap out but I rinsed the pan several times after washing to no avail. Then I thought it was because I had the lid on and air didn't circulate, but I hand washed and dried the pot and stored the lid separately, and it still smelled.

I bought an 11 inch everything pan (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000E0FVKK/) from Circulon at the same time (also for 20 dollars), and it's not showing as much sign of wear and tear. Maybe it's because I used this pan more than the 'everyday' pan, but either way, three years is not a long time for a pan.

Customer Review: Love it!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Love this product. The only reason I really took this was because I was buying a Circulon set and there was an offer with the set which has this dutch oven free with the set. Who can pass such an offer? I still read the reviews before buying this and liked what I read. I used it yesterday for the first time after 5 months of buying.

And I LOVE IT!! I had a lunch housewarming party at my house and had invited about 15-16 people at my house. I used this dutch oven to cook the main dish which required me to saute 4 big chopped onions till tender and then saute the tomatoes till tender. I thought it would take a long time for that to happen as I had experienced with my other cookware. Not with this. With this, it took about 5-10 minutes till the onions were nice and tender evenly. Same with the tomatoes. I had the same quantity of onion sauteeing in another Circulon pan and it took another 5-8 minutes for that onion to get tender and it was nowhere near the same consistency. Also the onion did not burn or stick to the base of the pan. And everyone at the party was raving about my dish. Even my husband said that out of all the times that I cooked this dish, this was the best tasting (with the same recipe).

It was a pleasure cooking with this. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone.

Customer Review: Perfect Circulon pot!
Summary: 5 Stars

This 5 1/2 quart Dutch oven is wonderful for pasta, soups, anything being made in a larger quantity or needing space to cook: mashed potatoes, steamed veggies, the list goes on and on. I don't deep fry things, but this would work for that purpose as well. It's a very versatile piece. This is one of those larger pieces that I would recommend for anyone who wants to try Circulon for the first time, is just starting to stock their kitchen with good cookware, or is a serious cook who is looking for great quality anodized cookware. I love Circulon and have been using it for years. The high low texture makes it easy to clean and I love the glass lids for the newer styles like this one. *Note that anodized cookware should be hand washed and never heated higher than the manufacturer recommends. It will warp if overheated. It heats more quickly and evenly than most other cookware, but can scorch food or boil over just like other cookware. Plan to cook on lower temps and don't go any higher than medium high on the stove top. Do what the manufacturer says regarding oven temperatures. It is not magnetic, so is not compatible with magnetic induction cook tops.

Customer Review: Not an Infinite, wrong descriptions, looks like Circulon 2
Summary: 4 Stars

They have a button to report wrong information!

I knew this pot was not from the infinite line of pots with Circuon's name on it. I read all the reviews and all the contradictive information on the page. Anyways, when I received the pot I gave it away but it did look like a good pot, especially for the price. Has their grooved nonstick, aluminum cooking performance, is lightweight, and durable. I think the handles are heat conductive and not the stay cool metal. I also was looking for the infinite's nondrip rims. btw, when I took a look at my invoice a while after I bought it I was wtf! I thought it was 30 when I bought it but they had charged me near 35 for it. Well it is now 10 cheaper then what I thought. Wasted my time gambling on buying this and I'm too sick to complain but I wanted to tell others of what they are buying.

update from 04/20 review
wow I guess they did fix the product description and put up another picture. I also notice they have a button to report wrong information!

Customer Review: Good all-purpose dutch oven
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this as a replacement for a 5 1/2 quart pan that was recently ruined when it was being used for steaming...with no water. Oh well, luckily I got a great deal on the Circulon 5-1/2-Quart Dutch Oven and so far I'm very pleased with it's quality.

I've used it for numerous things: boiling water for pasta, simmering a large pot of marinara sauce, a pork roast in the oven and even a cheese sauce. It seems to maintain even heat, without any hot spots. I also like the clear lid so that I can see how things are progressing without removing the lid and losing heat. The only complaint I have and the reason for not giving it 5 stars is that the metal handles on both the sides and lid do get hot. I would expect that when using it in the oven, but even when using it on the stove they are too hot to touch without a hot pad.
