Customer Review: More like thick cookies not muffin tops :(
Summary: 4 Stars

This item is nicely constructed, feels and looks like good quality...and so far has shown to be durable. The non-stick coating is absolutely wonderful! When the muffins are done you just take them out of the oven, tilt the pan slightly and they will slide right off onto your serving plate! That has to be my favorite feature of the pan :) As for the muffin tops...well, they don't really seem like muffin tops to me, more like thick cookies or pancakes (but spongy muffin textured). Don't get me wrong, they are absolutely delicious and better than a typical muffin, but I wouldn't really compare them to the awesomeness of having a fresh baked muffin and ripping the top off to eat just it...I don't know that you can replicate that! Perhaps I'm doing something wrong in my preparation/cooking method and that is why mine don't turn out looking like muffin tops at all. I'm going to keep trying out different recipes and see if I can actually reproduce a true "muffin top" but until then I will enjoy the pleasure of eating the thick soft cookie type things that I have been getting out of this pan :)

**The wells on this pan (for the muffin mixture) are very low and wide, I have seen other pans of this type that don't have such wide reservoirs...I wonder if that might be why mine turn out like big flat cookie muffins?

Customer Review: Great muffin tops; Not so good for GF burger buns
Summary: 4 Stars

Chicago Metallic Muffin Top pan will make great muffin tops. It is super non-stick. Baked goods slide right out. Clean up is easy and quicker than it takes to tell about it.

Sadly, I didn't purchase this pan to make muffin tops. I purchased this pan (actually, I purchased two) to make gluten free hamburger buns, and it didn't work so well for me for this purpose. I got delicious rolls, but they did not hold their round shape at all. I think the indentions are just too shallow to support the dough/batter as it rises (I used a gluten-free yeast dough). Further, I think the non-stick is so very non-stick that the dough pulled away from the sides as it baked. Since this problem may be only with gluten free dough (and maybe only my recipe), I only took away one star. I hope you have marvelous success with whatever you want to bake in it, because I do recommend the pan.

I will continue to look for 4" cake pans, or perhaps try the English Muffin rings for GF burger buns. I might even try the 5" creme brulee dishes.

I hope my neice wants a muffin top pan (or two)!

Customer Review: They do what they are supposed to do.
Summary: 4 Stars

I ordered two of these pans and upon receipt I put them to work. First observation, Made in China...not happy, poorly rolled edges, not usual Chicago Metallic quality.

Like others have stated, due to the size of the cups, these pans actually make fewer muffin tops, then regular muffins. Followed Chicago Metallic instructions and lowered the baking temp by 25 degrees from what recipe states. Oops, burned first batch. Made second batch and watched very close, pulled them out at 14 minute mark and they turned out very nice. Noticed that they rise quickly, and bake just as quick.

In general, these pans work as they are supposed to, but it will take a bit of trial and error before I feel completely comfortable with using them. On the down side, there aren't many muffin top recipes out there yet so you have to modify existing recipes. My opinion, if you want muffin tops, these are the pans to use. And, by all means, purchase two of them, because the six at a time thing would take forever!

BTW, the second batch of Apple Strudel Muffin Tops were pretty good.

Customer Review: Muffin tops are the new family favorite!
Summary: 5 Stars

I just received my muffin pan top and have tested two muffin recipes (Pillsbury Banana Bran & Giada DeLaurentis' Lemon Ricotta) with delicious results. The instructions tell you to reduce the oven temperature by 25 degrees and to reduce baking time by 10 minutes, which seems to work. The non-stick surface truly is non-stick - you don't even need to use cooking spray. The pan also cools off very quickly - I find that I can remove just-baked muffins to a cooling rack, immediately refill the tin with fresh batter, and by then, the pan has already cooled enough to handle with bare hands. I use a slightly-heaping two-inch diameter ice cream-style scoop to portion out the perfect amount of batter. Being flat, the muffin tops are much easier to store and transport than traditional muffins - they also freeze & thaw well. The kids love them, too - they're much neater and easier to eat, and no messy cupcake liners to deal with! Since the tin makes only 6 muffin tops at a time, it does make sense to own two or more - I plan on ordering another one. Happy Baking!

Customer Review: Make Great Hamburger Buns
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this pan to make hamburger buns with. The well dimensions at about 4 inches across, and 3-1/2 inches at the bottom and 1/2 inch deep. Makes six hamburger buns at a time. To make just, take your favorite bread dough, roll a piece of dough about 3 t 3-1/2 ounces, place in greased pan, cover and let rise until doubles in size. Brush with egg whites and sprinkle with sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or dehydrated minced onion. Bake per instructions, just check on after 15 minutes or so. Works out great, my buns came out the same size. (I make a 1 pound dough in the bread machine (about 2-1/2 cups of flour) and split it into 6 equal pieces.) If you are going to use a pan like this to make burger buns, this is a great size for a standard bun which is 4 inches. Some other pans out there make smaller buns. And nothing beats homemade bread, and using the bread machine, no reason for any one not to make their own now. But 2 pans and make a 2 pound bread dough in the bread machine and make 12 buns at a time.
