I already had a set of knives and a storage block but no sharpening steel. I bought this one because it matched the rest of the knives in the block. It does a great job of restoring a knife's cutting edge with just a few strokes. If you've never used one of these before, there are several on line videos about proper sharpening technique.Customer Review: it works !!!!

This is an easy way to sharpen knives just before of after using them. It really sharpens them up. I stroke downward on both sides of the knife, sometimes doing it again for maximum sharpness.
