I purchased a mug like this for my sister many years ago and it has held up exceptionally well. I'd always loved the idea of the disappearing cat so when I saw this I had to buy it. I have followed the instructions implicitly but the picture is a decal and has been disintegrating. I don't soak the mug but anywhere a droplet clings, the writing moves or falls off. I don't own a dishwasher so that has not been the issue. I am very disappointed in this mug. I would definitely NOT buy it as a gift- your friends will think you're cheap! I'd feel happier if I hadn't paid full price for it.Customer Review: More Than Cat Disappears

I got this mug as a gift and simply adore it. However, hubby put it in dishwasher by mistake and a good portion of words and scene seemed to disappear or smear. The cat is still there and still disappears with boiled water so it's still fun. I use it every day and it makes me happy! It is a drag to be so cautious about something.I do plan to buy two more for gifts! I will be disappointed if it continues to fade but such is life..nothing stays the same. The outside of the mug can come off if cleaned in the dishwasher or with anything abrasive (as the box warns)--so just use soap and water. I assume this is why the other reviewer had a problem. Otherwise it's awesome. The cat "disappears" pretty well, although the ink isn't 100% invisible (it turns into a very faint yellow tinge). Still, good enough to be pretty amusing (to me) and worth the money.Customer Review: Not sure how to wash this mug.

This was bought as a Christmas gift for my daughter. The mug is great; cool artwork and the letters disappear they way are supposed to. Our problem is with washing the mug. As instructed we've always handwashed it. However, after a few uses the lettering started to wipe off, no matter how careful we tried to be. This Cheshire Cat mug is adorable. As hot liquid heats the mug, the Cat disappears all except for his smile. The mug arrived within a short time and in perfect condition. I recommend this mug for any other Cheshire Cat or Alice fans. It is especially cute for me because my last name is Cheshire.
