I agree with Ms. Everest. I also consider myself a reasonably coordinated person but have dropped it into mashed potatoes, with similarily messy results. I think there's a design flaw in that the spring isn't strong enough to return it fast enough, so that as you loosen your grip, your hand relaxes too fast for the handles to keep up. A better design would be to put a loop on one of the handles to put your finger through, so that at least if you let go too fast you'd have it swinging from your finger and wouldn't drop it altogether.

On top of that, the thing is quite noisy, especially as the supply of corns diminishes. The ball acts like the box on a stringed musical instrument, amplifying the sound of the grinder. Additionally the grinding plate is plastic; I wouldn't expect it to last long.

The whole point of this thing is that you can use it with one hand, which is useful for cooking. If you have to use two hands, you'd be better off with the twist design. My wife found a generic two-handed grinder locally for half the price of this one, and that's the one we use.

I remember a very simple one-handed design from the 50's which used the same up and down grinding action, but where the plate was solidly connected to a plunger that you pushed up and down with your thumb. What's wrong with that design? Why try to "improve" on it with something that's worse functionally and more complicated mechanically?
