Customer Review: Solutions to lengthy 'cookie sessions"

A client brought us a plate of pizzelle cookies for Christmas, and I knew I had to have a pizzelle press. I searched Amazon, and based on the excellent reviews, I ordered the Pizzelle Pro. I have already (as of 1/2/11) made three batches of cookies, and am very pleased. I noticed when I was reading reviews, that some cooks objected to the time it took to make a batch of cookies. With this in mind, the first time I made the cookies I cut the recipe by two-thirds; i.e. instead of the six eggs called for, I used two. It didn't take too long, and I had a nice little batch of cookies. The only problem was standing at the counter for several minutes. So the next time I did one-half measure (3 eggs) and set up shop at the dining room table where I could operate the press and still watch TV and be part of family converations. This pizelle maker is quite easy to use. It regains heat quickly, so there is very little time needed between making each "batch" of cookies. This pizelle grill makes three pizelles at a time, which is a nice feature. The pizelles come off of the grill easily, which is a concern that I had when originally deciding which brand to purchase. The recipe to make the pizelles is also quite simple. I made the first pizelles with my Mom, who is in a wheelchair. The following week, she called me to tell me that she had made them herself. She was very happy about that! The Chef's Choice pizelle maker is also easy to clean, after use. Another good feature - the pizelle grill stores in an upright position, so that it takes less cabinet space.
I originally selected this brand because I also own a Chef's Choice Electric teakettle, which is well made and heats water very quickly.

I bought this maker because I really wanted to be able to make a unique type of cookie to give as Christmas gifts. The machine bakes well and the recipes in the small cookbook that came with it are tasty. It's frustrating, though, that I can't get the pizzelles to come out consistently round. The kit really needs to include some sort of dispenser (like a squeeze bottle or pastry bag) that can measure out the exact amount of batter needed for each pizzelle. They do include a very tiny plastic spoon, but this does not work well, especially because the batter is so sticky. I use my own cake-decorating pastry bag to more carefully measure out the batter for each pizzelle. This still isn't the best option, but it does help. Also, a note that the metal on the outside of the unit gets VERY HOT. Too bad the company couldn't have come up with a cooler outside for the baker.Customer Review: Great for a newbie!

I had always enjoyed pizzelles that were found around the holidays so much that I bought them year-round from my local grocery store. I decided one day that it would be much easier (and cheaper) if I learned how to make them myself. I bought this pizzelle maker after readind reviews on Amazon as well as a few other online sources. Of course Amazon had the best price and with free shipping I figured I couldn't go wrong. This pizzelle maker is AMAZING! I've never had any experience with making pizzelles and my cookies were perfect from the first batch on! It was so easy to learn how to use this machine and I'm extremely glad I chose it. Having never made pizzelles before, I expected a long period of "getting the hang of it." That only took about five minutes, and I was off and baking. This is easy to use and very easy to clean. I like the recipes that are in the instruction booklet, and many more are available online. Our favorite is a cheesy herb pizzelle filled with cream cheese and crab. I have too many kitchen gadgets, but this one gets lots of use and is fun to experiment with. Ever wonder what a crispy mozzarella and basil pizzelle topped with fresh tomatoes and black pepper would taste like? Now you can find out. I was also able to make bags of pizzelles for teacher gifts in a short period of time. I've heard they also freeze well, but have never had any left over to freeze!
