Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Chaney Instrument 00985 Wireless Refrigerator Freezer Thermometer Alarm SetCustomer Review: Good idea?? Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this after I had inadvertently left the refrigerator door open for the fourth or fifth time. I thought this would be a good solution to that problem, where I would get an alarm if the refrigerator or freezer warmed up due to an open door. But this unit keeps giving me an -E- error message and I have to reset the whole unit each time and start the monitoring again. What a pain. The company says it's due to the placement of the unit and/or sensors but no matter where I put them, I get the error.
Customer Review: works as advertised Summary: 4 Stars
I use this in a standard refrigerator-freezer and it works great. I mounted the display on the outside of the refrigerator, so it doesn't have to transmit very far. I haven't tried mounting it anywhere else. The refrigerator temperature is probably off about 2 degrees, but otherwise I can't complain. The freezer sensor works fine with alkaline batteries in my unit. The freezer averages about 5 - 10 deg-F. The high/low temperature feature is nice to have, and seems to give very reasonable results.
Customer Review: Peace of mind Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this shortly after a 4 day power outage and we lost all of our food. This is awesome because you can tell the temperature of your fridge and freezer w/o opening them. I have a digital temp. on my refrigerator, but that won't work if the power is out. Can't say what peace of mind this brought just knowing if my food will be safe or not. And if the power goes out for a long period of time, I can know if the temp. is rising and I need to get it to a safer place or throw it out, etc.
Customer Review: Total piece of junk Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this to use in my motorhome to monitor the basement freezer. You can forget that. Both remotes have limited range. By limited I mean a few feet provided you have nothing in between. This is a joke.
I have discovered you are better off buyuing a wireless indoor/outdoor thermometer ie. Radio Shack , etc. Your range is better (much much) and you can add extra monitors to them should you want to monitor other areas, outside, inside, or where ever.
Customer Review: Keep it FRESH! Summary: 5 Stars
Just bought my 3rd Wireless 00985 and mailed it to my girlfriend and mother who easily had it up and running with a little support over the phone. They love to see that their freezer and fridge are at optimum degree's to keep food as it should be...fresh. I love this product and can only say "Gotta Get One"! Tried several others but no luck. Make sure to use the litium AA batteries for the transmitters you place in the freezer and fridge. Litium can withstand extreme tempetures.
