Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Capresso 471.01 CoffeeTEC Digital 10-cup Coffeemaker with Stainless-Steel Vacuum Carafe and FrothXpress, BlackCustomer Review: Really, really great... Summary: 5 Stars
My first review EVER..and this product brought me out of complacency. It works perfectly and is easy to maintain. I find coffer filters preferrable to rinsing out the basket and does not require as much coffee as indicated to brew a perfect cup and I drink a lot of coffee. The frother works like a charm and once you master the regulating of the "froth" knob you can tinker with the temperature a bit. I simply keep a glass of clear cold water with the flexible siphoning hose (used to insert in a small carton of milk) and cut to the right length sitting by the machine. After I froth to my hearts content and return the milk container to the frig, I simply attach the waiting tube-in-water to the end of the valve and turn on the steam to clean the byways and highways of its little system. Voilla, I have hardly missed a sip in the process. I read all the reviews carefully before making this purchase and was waiting with some trepidation, but, what a pleasent surprise. Buy and enjoy. jls
Customer Review: Tried and Tested for three months...so far so great! Summary: 4 Stars
I would concur with the other fellow from Rochester- this machine is worth the price- the frothing mechanism is awesome and works consistently. The 4 rather than 5 stars is because of the fact that if you have lots of folks to froth for- you will need to put more water in the reservoir (to create the steam) this is something I figured out by trial...and now when it doesnt froth, I just check the res- and sure enough, it needs more H2O.
Also, I would like the spot under which the froth comes out to have more clearance (i.e. so I can put a big bucket there and leave it to froth on its own. But as it is now, only a cup can fit there and you can spoon the froth into cups- making enough for about 2 (maybe) lattes.
But makes excellent coffee that stays hot for a long time. Cannot pay this little for this type of machine with this capability. So- all in all- I am very happy with Review: great way to wake up in the morning Summary: 4 Stars
THe aroma of freah brewed coffee is a sure way to start my day.
The main reason that we purchased this coffeemaker was for the FrothXpress.
I have used a press for years simply because I did not like the coffee from prior coffee makers plus, heated my milk in the microwave and used a small beater to get simi-froth.
THe Capresso makes a really good coffee and as a plus it is easy to prepare and clean.
Now for the frother - the milk goes into a separate container and attaches to a nozzle located on the side of the coffeemaker, you place your mug under the sprout and turn the button and a nice stream of heated milk and froth is poured into you mug.
I have discoved the easiest way to clean the froth part is after I'm finished with my last cup of coffee I empty the milk out of the plastic container, rinse and put fresh water in it and process this through the steamer.
Customer Review: GREAT Coffee, BUT durability issues Summary: 3 Stars
We first bought this machine ~2001, and have had to send it back for service 3 times at a charge of ~$60 each. It works great, but eventually (18-24 months) it begins to leak water, sometimes from the gasket where the removable reservior connects to the body of the machine, and sometimes from the interior of the machine. In the latter case we were told by the company that the pressures that build up inside the machine (due to the steaming functions, I suppose) can eventually create leaks in the "plumbing". Most recently, the electronics have gone out and we do not plan to pay another sixty bucks for "service" but are replacing it with a less complicated model. If you have an espreso machine, you can steam with that, and it does a better job anyway. This is a terrific coffee maker at a fair initial price, but expect to pay another $60 every couple of years to keep it working.
Customer Review: Just what I wanted Summary: 5 Stars
We had been using a mini hand-held frother every morning along with microwaved milk to make our lattes, so this was the perfect machine for us! We watched the CD that came with it and found using it to be very simple. The only thing I have discovered, which might be helpful to others too, is that if I don't rinse out the steam pieces just before using the frother, many times the milk doesn't come through, only steam for some reason. (I do rinse the pieces out after each use and let the steam come through for several seconds as the manual says to do). So I have added this step which is not a big deal and it's great! What I am amazed at is how hot the coffee is--far hotter than our previous thermal coffeemaker was even though we preheated the carafe with hot water each morning. We have used the Capresso daily since the end of June 08 and love it!
