As much as I love Capresso products - this one is questionable.
You might wonder what I mean by this - well, first of all look at the costs for just three filters. Second: If you use these filters as recommended on the package (60 uses or 6 weeks) then just do the math.
Yes, you will pay in one year more than the cost of your coffee maker. I have a Capresso coffee maker that cost over $200 and I love it but cannot afford these filters.
To beat this unnecessary filter and its expense, this is what you do. Simply use filtered water. Quality filtered water will be without all the particles and contaminants that will hurt your coffee maker. Then, follow the coffee maker's instructions regarding its cleaning - like using white vinegar to keep the system free of harmful calcification.
Manufacturers are in business to make money and they will sell you whatever you believe you must buy - these filters are not necessary!

The Capresso coffee duo is the best I've ever used, however I've had it repaired twice in the past two years. Regardless, their customer service is excellent and I would buy it again in a heartbeat. I've been using these filters which work as described; you place one in the little basket, push the external button, then see a green light glow until it starts blinking about two months later and you need to replace the filter, when the cycle is repeated. I will no longer buy the filters, however, because the prices have escalated and I filter my water for consumption. I have one remaining filter and will use it, but I do believe that if you have another water filtration system, this is overkill. If you do use this filter, be sure to remove it when you clean your system with vinegar and water monthly, which I strongly recommend.Customer Review: Another perspective

We've used Capresso 440 for a few years. I agree with other reviewers that the cost-effective way around using their 4440.09 filter is to use filtered water.
However, most of those reviewers overlooked a significant benefit of using a filter in the water tank - it keeps coffee grounds from entering then clogging the internal plumbing and/or heater. The Capresso 440 has an important design flaw, in that when making a full pot the brew can overflow back into the tank. Larger grind particles can (and have in our case) get into the internal plumbing and disrupt proper flow through the heater.
We have been using a small wad of cheesecloth instead of the 4440.09 since our unit was repaired (probably replaced).

I have bought these filters for years and was glad to see them carried on Amazon.
I noticed that a couple of reviewers who rated this item one or two stars based on the Capresso filter being the wrong size for coffee makers made by Hamilton Beach. Apparently, these persons are capable of ordering an item from Amazon, but are incapable of understanding that these filters are made to fit Capresso coffee machines. They gave the filters low ratings, not due to the performance of the filter, but due to their own ignorance in reading comprehension. It is ashamed that they will never see or read my review but, then again, I harbor no expectation that these words would be understood. Hopefully, these people do not order shoes online.

This is my 3rd Capresso 454 Coffee maker. I love them! Great coffee, all the time.
The filters that are used (1 comes with it) are about $5 each...3 for $15. What a giant ripoff!!
First, I think charcoal filters are a good idea....but Jeez, $5 per filter?!! These things should sell for $.50 each! A total ripoff!
My suggestion (after buying a 3 pack) is to use filtered water...or tap water. I don't think you will see a difference.
This filter is specially shaped to go into the little basket, so other filters won't work. What a great idea...One could spend a fortune on filters alone!
Use plain cold water....tastes the same!
