Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Calphalon Triply Stainless 2-1/2-Quart Shallow Saucepan with Glass LidCustomer Review: Great pan at a great price! Summary: 5 Stars
For health reasons I am replacing my nonstick and aluminum pans with stainless and/or cast iron. I did a lot of research before I bought and was looking for a flat bottom stainless 2-qt saucepan with a full aluminum core. There are a lot of pans out there that meet that criteria, most of them pretty expensive. I was a little unsure about the size of this pan because it is not an exact replacement for the standard 2-qt saucepan but I bought it anyway because of the great price and reviews. I am thrilled to say it is even nicer than I expected and much more useful than the standard 2-qt style. The size is just right for a lot of everyday cooking and can work as a saute pan as well. The glass lid lets you see exactly when rice is done, whether the soup is simmering too much or too little or when the greens are wilted just right. The handle is well designed, not too long, and stays cool. The pan weighs enough to feel substantial but is still easy to maneuver with one hand. It sits well on my ceramic top stove and heats up quickly and evenly. It handles well, cleans easily and looks great. This is my pan of choice for most everyday cooking and it will get a lot of use. A really nice pan at full price, and a fantastic bargain at the sale price.
Customer Review: $29.99 looks smaller than the Contemporary 2 quart chef's pan Summary: 3 Stars
I used to have 3 smaller Visions pots that I used simultaneously as well as a 2.5 quart pot so I know that little pans come in handy. 2 of my Visions were broken this year and the replacement prices on ebay after shipping are as much as Calphalon's try me prices for their smaller pots and pans.
I don't really understand the difference but I know I need at least two little pans.
Calphalon's explanation of the chef pan and sauce pan:
The chef's pan is many a chef's favorite silhouette! The gently curving sides accommodate a balloon whisk beautifully. Keeping up a constant stir is comfortable thanks to he lower profile. The wider mouth offers more efficient evaporation than a standard sauce pan --reductions take less time.
Whether you're preparing a delicate Bearnaise or a meaty marinara, Calphalon sauce pans are designed for maximum performance. heavy-gauge aluminum construction guarantees even, efficient heating. The cast stainless steel Cool V handle absorbs heat more slowly than cast iron handles, so it stays cooler longer on the burner. Plus, the rounded bottom perimeter helps you scrape every spot inside the pan so no tasty spoonful goes to waste.
Customer Review: Excellent 2 1/2 quart saucepan (not included in regular set) Summary: 5 Stars
If you are a fan of the Calphalon Tri-Ply stainless cookware line, then this covered saucepan, not included in the 13 piece set, is a must. It has a wide base for a saucepan and therefore does not stand as high as other pots of the same capacity. This makes it great for sauces and sautéed dishes.
The Calphalon Tri-Ply line is similar in design to the much more expensive All-Clad cookware and the less expensive Cuisinart MultiClad. It has stainless steel sides, a magnetized bottom (for induction cooking), with a highly inductive aluminum core not just on the bottom but also up the sides. The long, curved handle does not get hot (unless directly over a flame, of course); I'm able to pick up a pot of boiling water without using a potholder. The tempered glass lid lets you see inside so you are tempted to lift the lid less often. I have to admit that I'm a little apprehensive about a breakable lid -- what happens when one breaks in five or so years? -- but the metal rim protects the edge, making it unlikely to chip.
I love this Calphalon cookware. Even if you are adding to a non-Calphalon collection, you will love this sturdy, versatile cookware.

Customer Review: I am glad I upgraded Summary: 5 Stars
I am a 27-year old graduate student who loves to cook. I had some very low quality non stick cookware that got scratched (mostly by my roommates) and I decided it was time to get some new things. I bought this pan about a month ago, and it appears to be a great investment. Not only is it beautiful, it is functional and very easy to clean. I also really love the fact that I can use metal utensils- this really helped when I made caramel in it over the stove. It performed very well for that task and I had no problems cleaning it up. Sure, you can get a whole set of pots and pans for the price of this, but they won't be near the quality and won't last nearly as long as this pot. This is a great value and i highly recommend this if you cook a lot- or even if you don't! You'll get your money's worth and this will last you a very long time.
Customer Review: everything i would expect and more Summary: 5 Stars
i bought this pan to make a cup of rice, or some chili or soup. being single and not a big fan of perpetual leftovers, this is the right size to do any of those. i chose free supersaver shipping, but the pan arrived the next day! i know i live within 10 miles of one of amazon's warehouses, but still!
i had been making chili for years in a cheapie 4 qt stainless chef's pan with the disc on the bottom, but without the aluminum core clad sandwich up the sides to evenly conduct the heat. tasty as it was, i was somewhat disappointed at how the burger and onion wouldn't quite cook apart and soften as much as i liked. that all changed today with this pan. wow-everything just melted together after an hour of simmering. and the lowest flame simmers slightly lower and therefore longer in this pan. i'm very pleased.
