Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Calphalon One Nonstick 11-Inch Square Grill PanCustomer Review: Don't be confused, buy infused Summary: 3 Stars
I bought my first Calphalon One INFUSED pan over 15 years ago, the Wok, and became a loyal believer then and there. I have used the Wok on both gas and electric ranges and have always had even heat and easy stir fry. I have had many a shrimp or Hunan Fire Oil residue burn to the bottom, but have never had a bit of trouble washing the remains off. All I do is fill it with hot sudzy water, leave it sit for an hour or so, and take a plasitc scrub brush to whisk it all away. I bought the Calphalon One INFUSED Anodized 9-inch chef's skillet and the Calphalon One Non-stick 11-inch grill skillet early this year. I can report the same consistent and dependable cooking and clean-up results for the 9-inch skillet but the grill skillet is a bit more stubborn. This could be due to the rippled grill skillet bottom. I bought the last two items on Amazon and got very good sale prices, but I would pay full price for any of the Calphalon One INFUSED Anodized cookware items. They are first class. The Calphalon One Non-stick Anodized coated cookware is a definite step down. I have read owner reviews that complained about the product not living up to its reputation or price. If they were comparing to the INFUSED cookware, I can understand their disappointment.
Customer Review: A better alternative Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased two of these pans (on sale) to replace my old George Foreman electric grill. The George Foreman grill still works great, but clean-up is a royal pain because the grates are not removeable. For that reason, I haven't used it all that much.
The Calphalon One nonstick grill pans, on the other hand, work just as good but are much easier to clean. They're also easier to store, and if the electricity goes off, I can still grill because I have a gas cooktop.
You may wonder why I bought two regular grill pans instead of one large grill pan that would cover 2 burners. Well, my gas cooktop has two large burners and two small burners. Most cooktops are like that. You rarely see two adjacent burners that are the same size. My thinking is that if both burners are not the same size, the food might not cook evenly. Each of my cooktop's grates measures 11 inches square, so it made perfect sense to buy two 11-inch square grill pans. The two large burners are not right next to each other, so I have the option of using just one grill pan, or using two grill pans at the same time.
Customer Review: Great Nonstick Grill Summary: 5 Stars
I got this to supplement my Calphalon Professional square grill. I use this one when preparing barbecue with high sugar marinades and sauces.
First of all, unlike a lot of nonstick pans, you can get this grill very hot. This produces authentic looking grill marks and that sought after smoky taste. However, even the stickiest, most burned on remnants come off with a soak and a wipe.
I also use this pan to grill more delicate, crumbly meats like hamburgers, crab cakes, and fillets of fish. These may still crumble, but at least it won't be the pans fault. For plain grilling of steaks and chops, I still prefer hot, bare metal to nonstick.
The best thing about this pan, though, is the price. 50 bucks is very reasonable for a professional piece of cookware. It's also important to note that Calphalon nonstick grills are top rated by Cook's Illustrated magazine.
Customer Review: Non-Stick Surface Peeled. Calphalon refused to honor warranty. Summary: 1 Stars
I've been very happy with Calphalon products in the past. This one has been a disappointment. After about a year, the non-stick surface started to show signs of wearing off and peeling. At about the 2 year mark, it became so bad, that there was bare metal showing (no nonstick surface) on about 25% of the pan. I decided to return the pan for an exchange, as covered by the Calaphalon warranty. The robust warranty is one of the reasons I have always justified spending so much money on the Calaphalon pans. Well, they sent the pan back to me, claiming that it is not covered under the warranty, because if the non-stick surface was peeling off, it was my fault for putting the pan on too high of heat. I'm sure others have had better responses. This one has turned me from a Calaphalon gung-ho fan, to a very skeptical user. I would not recommend Calphalon non-stick due to this experience.
Customer Review: worked well the first time Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this grill pan after ignoring the previous reviews about sticking and difficulty of cleaning. I figured those users just didn't know what they were doing as I own other Calphalon non-stick pans and they all clean up great. Well, not this one. This is VERY sub-par for Calphalon. Food stuck in between the ridges even after soaking overnight. As a last resort, I used the scrubby side of my sponge to try to get it off and wound up REMOVING THE NON-STICK FINISH all around the stuck on food, but the food remains intact. So I now have a spot on the pan where the finish is gone with food stuck in the middle of it. Calphalon has started cranking out lower quality products at cheaper prices in an attempt to reach a larger target market and should no longer be considered high end cookware. I should have spent a little more money and bought the All-Clad.
