Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Calphalon D87821/2P Commercial Hard-Anodized 2-1/2-Quart Shallow Saucepan with Lid

Customer Review: Calphalon Commercial 21/2-Quart Shallow Saucepan
Summary: 4 Stars

This is my first experience with Calphalon. I am an avid cook who uses a gas stove, and I have used many high end cookware items over the years. My rating of 4 stars is based on using the pan in several different cooking methods and observing the results. I enjoyed the evenness of heat distribution. The cool handle. The shape of the pan allowed even browing of meats and equally even cooking of rice and orzo type pastas.....The lid is light, not adding unnecessary weight to the pan, while allowing moisture to remain. I was able to achieve high heat with good results and I was equally pleased with the ability of the pan to simmer at low heat with even results. The only disapointment is in the cleaning. I have noticed some sticking however this may be aliviated with use and 'curing'. I have ordered another pan, and recommend this cookware to all who enjoy the art of cooking.....Enjoy...

Customer Review: A bargain at twice the price!
Summary: 4 Stars

You've seen some of the other reviewers bemoan the fact these pots are made in china and come in a white box instead of the fancy cardboard one it usually comes in. I've bought Calphalon Commercial Skillets, Pots, and Stockpots and paid $60 for small ones, and $200 for large 8" Skillets. These are the same quality as the $200 ones I've purchased. I've been using these now for about two months, they're as durable and well made as the chef's skillet I bought two years ago (pretty close to the same size, and less than half the price of it). It come with a lid and is perfect for warming up some stock, or boiling a small portion of noodles. All and all, for the $20-$30 you will pay for it, I can't see how anyone could not be happy with it. I consider the these two pots I got from amazon a nice addition to my cookware, and at about the same price I would pay for kmart junk.....

Customer Review: If I only had one pot....
Summary: 5 Stars

....this would be it.

Whether it is used to boil a cup of water to make hot chocolate in the morning or a nice soup for lunch, or even a stew for two, this pot is used several times a day.....every day.

So what do I like? Well, the Amazon.com price is a bargain, and the pot has the thickest wall I have ever seen except for some old Magnalite I have. So it is built to be rugged and small enough that it isn't going to be too heavy.

The wide bottom permits the burner to heat the entire bottom and not the sides, as would be the case for a narrower pot.

Something else you will appreciate is the cast stainless steel handle. Stainless steel does not conduct heat very well and so the handle will usually remain cool when you are cooking on the stove.

Keep the temperature LOW and cleaning up will never be a chore. What you don't bake on, you won't have to scrape off.

Customer Review: I love this pan!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this pan back in February '06. I use it several times a week. I love how quickly these pans heat up. They are nice and heavy and they work much better on my flat-topped stove than my old cookware. As other reviewers have mentioned, this cookware is not non-stick. All it takes is a little bit of oil in the pan to keep items from sticking. These pans are also very easy to clean. Once you've removed the food from the pan, add a little bit of water to the pan. Use whatever utensil you have been cooking with and scrape off anything that is left in the pan as the water is bubbling up. Everything comes off very quickly this way. Also, Amazon is the best place I've found to buy these pans. I just received the 12 inch everyday pan (and I love it too!). I'll be adding more to my collection as they become available at a fraction of the normal price.

Customer Review: Ignore those comments about "made in China"
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had this pot (made in Teledo) for a while and I just ordered another one recently. The second one is made in China.

Don't believe those who says this is a Chinese cheapo. As far as I can see, between the two pots I have, there is no difference in thickness and weight between the Teledo made one and China made one. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE. The China made version is of same quality as of Teledo made version, well crafted, and retain heat betifually.

There are always extremists like Lou Dobbs of CNN, who has nothing to say except "stop outsourcing and boycott Chinese". They blindly blame China and other nations for all the problems we have in USA. In their opinion, we should pay higher price for US made stuff even if it is of same quality. Sorry Lou, it is my money and I am not that stupid. Neither should you.
