Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Calphalon D87821/2P Commercial Hard-Anodized 2-1/2-Quart Shallow Saucepan with Lid

Customer Review: What did I do before Calphalon?
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm relatively new to cooking, so I was unsure about buying Calphalon products, after hearing from some of my family members about it being hard to clean. Maybe that's the case for other people, but for me it's a breeze! My first use of this saucepan was tomato sauce- very hard to clean on some surfaces. I must say, Calphalon passed the test! It was very easy to clean, and the sauce turned out beautifully. Somehow Calphalon products affect the outcome of everything cooked in them. I don't know why that is, but I do know I'm very happy to have a kitchen stocked with Calphalon.

A word of warning, though. If you buy one piece, you'll definitely fall in love, and want to buy more. There's no better time than now to check out Calphalon, with Collector's Edition pieces. I'm noticing that nearly every purchase I've made of Calphalon has sold out shortly after I bought it. Seize the moment, and put this in your cart now, before it's too late!

Customer Review: New Old Calphalon
Summary: 4 Stars

I have owned a fairly complete set of Calphalon for over 20 years. I finally decided to replace one size pot which some friends damaged years ago when they were house sitting. I had always held back because I was concerned about getting an expensive pot with a non-stick coating. I think of non-stick as something that fails in a few years so you only buy those $12 pans in the supermarket.
But I found that Calphalon still makes the "professional" hard-anodized finish as well as non-stick. I also found a sizeable discount here on Amazon. A win-win. The new pot seems as good as the originals - heats evenly, cooks well and cleans reasonably easily. The handle shape and attachment has changed in the ensuing 20 years. The new handles don't look as rustic as the old. But, to tell the truth, it is a bit more ergonomic because of the curve.
Basically, Calphalon sauce & stock pots are very good & I will always stick with them.

Customer Review: Excellent for Multiple Uses
Summary: 5 Stars

I already have the stainless tri-ply version of this pan. I use this size and shape pan frequently because I make french style sauces daily. The low shape makes it easy for me to whisk in ingredients and to do reductions. The secure lids help me control the reduciton process by retaining moisture.

The heavy construction of the pan helps to keep a constant temperature with no hot spots to scorch the sauce.

I was really surprised to find that this can be used as a 2.5 Quart Saute pan as well. I used the recipe for Coq au Vin that came with the pot. The recipe called for stove top preparation and completion in the oven. This pan performed beautifully. I feel as if I got two pans for the price of one, an excellent sauce pan and a saute pan.

I may buy a second because the hard anodized line has been phased out and I dont think I will be able to get another in the future.

Customer Review: It changes the way you cook!
Summary: 5 Stars

This was my first Calphalon purchase, and my first ever commercial anodized aluminum pan. I am extremely pleased with the quality of this pan's construction - this pan is HEAVY duty. The first night I had it I tried the chicken recipe that came with the pan and it blew my family away! If there is a downside to this pan it is its size. At 2 1/2 quarts, its small size would not hold 3 raw split chicken breasts, so I had to brown 2, set them aside, brown the third, and then add the first two back in. On the upside, this cooking surface has unbelievable abilities to brown meat at a fairly low burner setting, it deglazes beautifully, goes right into the oven without worry, and as long as you follow the "rules" for cooking with this type of surface (which are included), it cleans fairly easily. I highly recommend this pan and predict that I will be buying many more pans in this product line in the future.

Customer Review: Disappointed
Summary: 3 Stars

I was looking forward to the saucepan being as well crafted as one I bought several years ago. Indeed, the original ones were the best. I have several with beautiful handles, some with no stick and annodized. They are no longer available. I thought that the ones I just ordered were from the originals no longer made.

I bought 2 saucepans. One for me and one as a gift. The metal handle and bolts look cheap on the ones I ordered.

I looked and it is now made in China. The original ones were made in Toledo Ohio. I gave one as a gift and had told the receiver that this is one of the original ones and is high quality, before I opened mine. I aplologized to them for my mistake.
I heated some food in it and it seems to cook alright. I haven't really given it a real workout yet. I know that I will not be buying the products of Calphalon any longer. They are not the same quality.
