Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Calphalon D87821/2P Commercial Hard-Anodized 2-1/2-Quart Shallow Saucepan with LidCustomer Review: This pan was a major disappointment NOT Recommended Summary: 1 Stars
NOT Recommended
This pan was a major disappointment! I purchased this because it was commercial & hard anodized with a major brand name but that didn't change anything. The first time I used it was to boil noodles that were stirred with a plastic utensil and there are now marks and/or tiny scratches on the bottom! I had had it with what has been reduced to throwaway pans with the non-stick surfaces that easily scratch, begin to flake and finally end up in the trash. I can't believe this is what Calphalon is selling as a commercial pan with a suggested retail of $119... though I paid $29.99 it wasn't much for a saucepan with a lid but it's still a major disappointment. It's equivalent to the throwaways from the local box stores.
I can only guess that there was a problem with the anodized surfaces in a lot of pans and that's why the price is so low on Amazon. In any event, if you don't care about marks or scratches then seize the deal and be forewarned. I buy a lot on Amazon and giving something such a low rating is a rarity for me. It has the 2 stars because it's a nice size at 2.5 quarts, pretty rugged and I hoped all those other poor reviews was due to a bad batch and that I wouldn't get one.... and that was a stretch. I haven't used it long enough to determine if the 2 stars is too high so I may be back to reduce that count to 1 star.
Customer Review: Calphalon now makes a good chamber pot... with a lid. Summary: 2 Stars

Customer Review: Weird.. but I love it! Summary: 4 Stars
This pan arrived early last week (5 stars for amazon.com it delivered in 3 days) I looked at it and the first thing I thought of is that it's a more like a tiny DEEP frying pan than a saucepan. I was thinking about returning it until I decided to cook up some pasta in it. It turned out to be a great size. I made oatmeal in it today and it's grown on me even more. The handle did NOT get hot which was such a relief. Even the handle on the lid didn't get hot. The really long handle makes the pot feel less heavy in some kind of scientific way I would never understand. When you pick it up by the handle it feels lighter than it is. I have the 3.5 qt Sauce pan that they sell for 39.99 that I bought last year and I adore that pan so much that I bought this one. That one has the chrome handles that are too hot so I did research before purchasing this one with the "cool v" handles. I am going to watch for more sales on these pans. They are worth every penny! BIG words of advice: I have treated my other pot very well over the last year heeding the "use and care" directions to the letter. My year old pan looks like I just took it out of the box and looks as good as the new one!Follow-up: It's been couple more weeks, I've been using it daily and really enjoying it!
Customer Review: A workhorse, but looks like one too! Summary: 4 Stars
First off, I love this pan & I would buy another in a minute if I needed it. I have had mine for 3+ years. It does everything it's supposed to do as other reviewers have noted. In fact, I burned something in it recently & as I looked at the charred pits, I thought I would be throwing it out & buying a new one. However, after much scrubbing with everything you can think of (Steel wool, metal knife, etc) it all came off & the pan looks again like a 3-yr old saucepan on the interior...amazing! I have not experienced any discoloring or pitting. However, the reason I give it 4 stars is because the exterior is definitely discolored: There are scratches on the sides; it is dark on the bottom in the center & light on the edges--something to do with my gas stove, I imagine. Scratches abound on the bottom. Since I don't hang my pans, its exterior appearance is not of great concern to me, so I am happy with it. I also am admittedly hard on my cookware. I never put them in the dishwasher, but since my kids wash the dishes, nothing is sacred. It also is starting to chip around the upper outer edge, which I can see eventually spreading to other areas. However, for $25 on Amazon's Lightening Deal, everyone should own one of these!
Customer Review: Cooks great !!! Summary: 5 Stars
Got the Calphalon Comm. Hard-Anodized 2-1/2 quart saucepan a month ago and it does such a good job. I was always under the opinion that Teflon is the only way to cook without the food sticking and easy to cook. Well, Teflon is 100% non stick no doubt. But here is where the difference bet. the Calphalon & other non-teflon products is... even though it sticks it is very easy to clean it out. The first time I cooked (Chicken fry) I was disappointed the way it formed a layer on the base.... & made up my mind to scrub it up profusely... to my surprise it came off, just with my fingers. Thats really cool. Realised that I can actually make a nice sause out of the stuck food before washing it. Well, you'll have to innovate.
The documentation that came along with the pan was great, there were instructions how to use the pan and the best practices section was useful, realized I did not do half of them. The build quality is very good.
One small issue is that the pan does not look as fancy as as most of the other ones in the market... but then, it is a commercial quality peice and it is expected to be more of utility than fancy looks.
Loving this peice, would definitely recommend this product.
