Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick 10-Inch Omelet PanCustomer Review: Review downgraded to ONE STAR... Summary: 1 Stars
This pan is well worth the price that I paid for it. Cooks as expected and easy to clean.
But, I had to give it only four stars because the non-stick surface is starting to lift off a bit after only eight months of gentle 2-3 times a week use. I had expected a longer life for the "Triple-coated" nonstick surface.
UPDATE: December 17, 2009... ONE STAR for this cheap junk.
Within a few weeks after I wrote the first review the non-stick surface of the pan was peeling so badly that my wife stopped using it and hid it in the back of the cabinet. I found it there this November, and remembering that it had a "Lifetime Warranty" I shipped it back, via UPS per their instructions, at a cost that equaled 1/3 of what I paid for the pan.
Calphalon received my pan, which had been manufactured in Toledo, Ohio, on November 13, and today, December 17, I received a replacement pan back. Big problem though. The replacement pan I received back weighs about 30% less than the one I sent in, and the quality of workmanship is less than half the quality of the pan that I sent to them. So, the pan I received back is only worth about half the value of the pan that I sent in.
It was no big surprise to me to read on the carton that the new pan came in, "Made In China." Do not buy the "new" Calphalon pots and pans because you will NOT get what you pay for.
Customer Review: Nicky Santoro sends a "Message" about a Calphalon breakfast Summary: 5 Stars
I always make breakfast for my kid in the morning, Little Nicky. Mr. Rothstein says I shouldn't announce, but I think in all fairness, I should explain to you exactly what it is that I do. For instance, tomorrow morning, I'll get up nice and early, I'll pull this here pan out of the oven tray and finesse it with some of that extra virgin olive oil the broads are using a lot these days. That is the point where this mudder comes alive in my hand like a bat at the tables. I have used many a non-stick pan in this town, but this Calphalon...this beauty-full, 10-inch piece of hard-anodized metal...works the meanest breakfast into existence, and I ain't no Charlie M. Allow me to speak more clearly. If you're some kinda balloon-headed mook that thinks the price isn't worth the butter, I need only remind you what the home security option this skillet provides as the need may arise. That's why The Bosses sent me out here - they wanted me to make it sohs the message is loud and clear.
Customer Review: Bait + Switch Summary: 2 Stars
Ok - So I have an older (2 yrs?) version of this exact same pan, which I really like, and use constantly.
Same Calphalon product id etc . .
So I feel confident ordering this one based on my previous experience . . . Mistake . . .
This is NOT the same pan in any way, even though it has the same Calphalon Product code etc . .
The metal in this pan is about 60% of the thickness of the older version, and is far too thin for any serious use.
It also has a "re-designed" 2-rivet handle that is of a far worse design then the older 3-rivet design.
The pan has also been significantly reshaped, reducing the effective heated surface, and now featuring a prominent 1/4" vertical lip around the edge which I find interferes with the use of the pan . .
It's about a 3 for actual usability, and a 0 for Calphalon for continuing to reduce the quality of their products.
I won't buy another . .
Customer Review: Nice pans, but hard to maintain Summary: 3 Stars
I have bought several of these pans. I really like the weight and the balanced feel of the pans. They do an excellent job of cooking; however, you must be very careful with them. If you do anything like put cold water in them to soak while they are still hot (which they warn you) or don't clean them well enough and reuse, you will have problems for the rest of the life of the pan. I am disappointed they are so "tempermental". I have tried to be careful (never put it in the dishwasher, used plastic utensils, etc). If you follow the directions to the letter, you will like them, but beware that you will have problems if you don't follow their warnings perfectly. Food now sticks to the pans. I feel for the money, they should have lasted longer. I have only had them a year or two.
Customer Review: review AFTER an YEAR of use Summary: 2 Stars
Initially, it was truly a wonderful frying pan, as reviewed by all. Within 1 year though, the entire non-stick surface is gone. Few things I followed for this whole year: (a) Only hand-washed, now only (since coating gone) I dish-wash the same (b) Never used metal spoons, spatulas, etc. Nevertheless, the coating initially started developing scratches, now it's just rough and coarse all over. Anyone having this should follow I guess ALL the precautions, i.e. (a) Never use anything metallic (c) Never stack with other utensils on top (c) Never use high heat to cook (d) Never put in dishwasher (e) Never clean while hot, must let it cool first. I believe the coating is good, but very thin to have worn out this fast.
