First, I don't have a clue about cookware or the quality of different brands. If I want a pan, I pick one up at the grocery store and use it. Hey, I'm a bachelor, so what do you expect? No, they don't last long, so I thought I'd go online and research a bit. After reading reviews about Calphalon products, and needing a small pan to boil water for many of my meals, I figured $20 wasn't too much to spend. If the pan wasn't any better than any other I've tried, no great loss.
Now one would think that if all I need is a small pan to boil water, what's the big deal? Well, the other pans I've used quickly get calcium deposits and become hard to clean (yes, especially the non-stick ones). After less than a year of use, I trash them, and I've even trashed a few within a couple of months. High heat ruins these surfaces quickly.
What are my results with this pan? Surprising. It's the perfect size for me. It boils water faster with much less heat than any pan I've ever used (of course, since it's so small it should boil the water faster), and after three months of constant use, it looks brand new. More surprising still is the handle actually stays cool to the touch (that's almost a first for me).
Is everything perfect? Nope. Those cute little pouring spouts don't really work with boiling water. I have no better luck not spilling with this pan than any other I've tried. I suspect if I were pouring something thicker such as soups, it might be different. But the pouring spouts are just too small to work with water.
Between 1 and 10, I rate this a solid 8. It does everything I want, looks like it will actually last, and is simple to clean because hard water deposits just wipe away. Now if I could just pour water without spilling it all over, I'd rate this 5 stars.
