Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Calphalon Commercial Hard-Anodized 8-1/2-Quart Saucier with LidCustomer Review: Another winner from Calphalon Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using Calphalon for over 35 years. The quality of the original is still the same as the new with the addition of a nicer handle. A 8.5 Qt Saucier is the perfect size to cook for a family of 4 and with the large surface area it can work very quickly to reduce a liquid. I have 4 of these now and they get lots of use not only on the cooktop but also in the oven. As a professional chef and restaurant owner, I've beaten these to death and they just keep working. My oldest piece of calphalon was purchased in 1968 when I was still in high school and it looks a little beat up but still conducts that even heat which is so important. I highly recommend Calphalon for any cook. All Clad is great stuff, but for the price nothing beats calphalon
Customer Review: To my surprise, I use it all the time Summary: 5 Stars
As others have noted, this is a REALLY large pan. When I first pulled it out of the box, I thought, What have I done?
To my surprise, I have ended up using this pan more often than just about any other that I own. If you are cooking for a crowd, or like to cook large batches and freeze for later, or if you want to brown all of your food in one (or maybe two) batches instead of 4 or 5, this pan is highly recommended.
I use it far more often than I use my jumbo sized Le Creuset Dutch oven (which is 13 pounds when empty) simply because it's so much lighter in weight. The browning and evenness of cooking are comparable. It slides neatly onto the bottom shelf of my fridge without having to rearrange the shelves. Love it!
Customer Review: Great Pan Summary: 5 Stars
First, let me say that for Amazon's current price of $20, this pan is a great deal. It's made of good quality materials, and my copy at least had acceptable coating. The heat dispersal is good, especially for this wide of a pan. I would expect it to last quite a while.
It's also important to note that this pan is NOT the same quality as my original Calphalon hard-anodized pans that I bought about six years ago. My original pans are noticeably thicker along with a thicker coating. The handles also have better fit and finish. That said, the original pans cost about 8 times as much.
Anyway, this is a great deal, but you're paying for a $50 pan, not the $180 pan as Amazon's site suggests.
Customer Review: This Saucier is a great product for any kitchen Summary: 5 Stars
I read a lot of the reviews before purchasing this saucier, but the price was so right and I have Calphalon already and love it! The only reluctance I had was space, a lot of reviews said that you could not use any other burners on their stoves becaus this pan took up a lot of space. I have a four burner Whirpool cook top and room is not a problem. No, two pots this side one on the front burner and one directly behind it on the back will probably not fit, but two side by side would or this saucier and 3 small ones would fit on the cook top. This pot distributes heat very well and cooks evenly. Making soups, stews and sauces is wonderful in a pot like this, I use this pot every time. I highly recommend it!
